I'm looking for some cheap Auto-x tires for the grand prix and because of my big brakes I'm stuck with a 16 inch wheel. Choices are limited. I only have a few more event s this year and will probably wind up running next season in this car as well unless a monza or caballero show up for cheap. as such I don't want to drop $800 on a set of tires.
I found these on tire rack for a more reasonable $400 and figure they're better than what I've got now. They would be Auto-x only and I'd swap back to the falkens for daily driving.
Just curious if anyone knows anything about them.

AFAIK that's a new tire. I've never seen it before.
I had a set of Nexen all seasons on my Mazda 6 as winter tires and they compared comparably to the Michelin all-seasons that came with the car. So they make a decent product.
These tires will probably be better than all-seasons or UHP tires, but not as good as the top tires (or even the "next tier" tires like the Toyo R1R, Hankook RS-3 and Bridgestone RE-11). These will probably perform more like the name brand 300 TW tires like the Michelin PSS or the Continental DW. They certainly look very aggressive. I'd be interested to see how they are.
Federal also makes a cheap 200TW tire. A guy I know with an MRSpyder tried them and said that while the provided decent grip, they provided really poor feedback and were just sort of a pain.

That new Nexen just came out this year and they are running a really aggressive program in Formula Drift that has been pretty successful.
Now before anyone says "That's drifting, they want a tire that doesn't grip", not in Formula Drift. In fact, these guys are running 10-15lbs of air in tires all the way around trying to get as much grip as possible.

No experience with that particular tire, but Mrs STM317 just got a set of Nexen ATs on her truck a couple of months back. They seem like decent tires so far.
Yep. They want speed as well as slip so if you up the speed you need more grip to get the same amount of slip angle as you would get at lower speeds
I had Nexen summer tires on the wagon for awhile. They were decent tires for the price, but not like the top crop of sticky tires. Great for mixed DD/autocross use if you're not chasing FTD or anything.
