friend of mine (and GRM teammate) lives in china (past 2 years) , he said the biggest fear is riding his motorcycle, it's not uncommon for people to hit you , and back over you to make sure you are dead so they don't have to pay insurance.

Wow. Starts out as a bad driving, goes to negligence, ends as a homicide. Interesting day on the way to work.

though it does bring back fond memories of my 2 years living in Naples, Italy with my little beatup Lancia Delta. Difference there is that people ARE paying attention. And they ignore EVERY traffic law, sign, light etc. Difference is, the Italians know how to control their cars and never actually hit anything more than a scrape....

That's pretty accurate. I'm stuck in Korea for a 3 year tour, right in the middle of Seoul. 35 million people and they all drive a car. I've endured Korean drivers for the past couple years now. In heavy traffic or just standing in line anywhere, if there is a hole then it must be filled. The general population does not consider what their actions have on other people. They are only concerned with themselves and where they need to go. No one else matters. If the light turns red at least another half dozen cars will continue through, which clogs up the intersections and increases congestion. Motorcycle drivers are the worst. Running red lights, lane splitting, sidewalks, etc. Police are nothing more than for show.
I always try to be courteous when traffic is merging or lane changing. Koreans don't return that favor. Turn signals mean nothing. You just have to nudge over or stick your nose out and muscle your way in. Even then they will do everything they can to get around you before they let you in. To get out of the alleyway that I live on I have to merge across incoming traffic. It's the worst possible scenario. I hate driving here.
Pedestrians are just as bad. They are clueless that they should maybe get out of the way when a 3000lb vehicle is coming down the road, but they just walk along in the middle of the road like it's no big deal.
how the hell are the N Korean tanks gonna advance through all that crap, they'll probably give up at the first traffic circle.
