Hmm. You do make some good points. Someone with a lot of first hand Z32 experience would probably make a better statement on this (maybe you do?).

I think they're decent cars and when I see one I still admire the styling and wonder what they're really like to own. It just isn't the sports car that the FD is. Kind of like an SC300; very capable, nice place to spend some driving time, and can hustle, but that isn't the goal. They had the Skyline for that stuff anyway.
I thought powertrain was not being considered for this exercise? The Z32 Chassis is a good chassis. It's got good geometry all the way around, aluminum fixed calipers, great dimensions (same as a BRZ - its not a big car), fits a ton of tire, etc. The slicktop weighs less than the M3 that is so loved in this thread. And if we aren't counting powertrain as part of this... it could probably be a lot lighter. The VG30DE is a *heavy* engine. Plus, they are dead sexy.

The question is not whether it's a good chassis though but if it's the best. Is it really better than S13/14, R3x, FD, E36, etc let alone the best overall?

BTW speaking of light weight engine in a 300ZX

As far as brakes R chassis come with the same ones and you can get R33 Brembos for not much money and put them on the Z chassis cars. The stock brakes on a Z32 kind of suck.

A SR20 300ZX seems like a good idea. If that's a plan you want to do then do it.

Not designed to stuff kids and luggage and dogs into, not designed to be practical in any way shape of form, designed to be good to drive, to have minimal polar moment, to be light, to be simple. Its got struts, and needs some reinforcement to really shine but aside from that, it's just sublime.

I'm not saying its the best overall (I voted for the E36 M3 earlier), just pointing out that it is very good. People are quick to poo poo it but don't really know that much about it.

And yes I constantly dream about an SR20 powered Slicktop. Should be able to get the weight down to like 2800 easily, maybe drop it more if you get a little crazy.

Pres589 - I had a slicktop a couple years back. One of 2 cars I really regret selling.

I really want to go buy this one (which placed 2nd in STX @ nationals FWIW):

No sir....can't agree with you on that one. Granted, this forum proves over and over again what one person sees as attractive, another sees as butt ugly. Even so.... I've never found a single person who thinks this is a better looking car than an E36 M3:

Oh my God, cover your hair and eyes. . . .

I shoulda said ugliest 3 series.

If you get into the whole line, it gets scary. Remember what's up the family tree:
