What did you ever do with that Quest? I'm in the market and SWMBO is loving the looks of those 3rd-gen Q-ships...

For those not familiar, the Quest began to run rough in the Autox at The Challenge. Ran louder and down on power. I continued to drive it and put about another 100 miles on it running rough. It ran but did not give me the confidence of driving it back 1,000 miles. The shop I took it to in Jax diagnosed it down to the function of the variable timing had quit. Essentially, the vtec, yo, broke.
I was going to have them dig into it right there....BUT...
That damn hurricane was coming and they were all bugging out. The smart move for me was to get the hell out of there too.
I hopped a rental car and zoomed home, leaving it in Jax.
Once the Hurricane settled, I dropped $400 for Uship to bring it to my front door (which was really cheap)
I have not yet fixed it. It is here sitting in my driveway, next to the Q45 (which runs fine) and a Taurus that I think needs an HG.
The plan is to keep the Quest. I have one summer trip planned that it would be great for and beyond that I use it like a pickup truck. In its current state which really just means it is running "out of proper timing" I have driven it to the county landfill and recycling runs, but really nothing else.
I removed the stripes and numbers. The two-tone will remain forever (since it hides some really bad sun burnt Flordia paint)
Genuinely, I like the darn thing. Some major engine surgery and it should be around a long time. If searching for one for your wife, try to get '06-'08 for the improved chain guides. The '04 & '05 have the plastic, not metal guides.
In '06 they still have the funky dashboard. In '07 the body is slightly updated and the dashboard gets more normal.
Also, the lower trim models like mine which is an "S", have 4 speed auto and the upper models "SL" have a 5 speed auto. It seems that the 4 speed has a better reputation of reliability and the MPG difference is only like the 4 speed gets 1 mpg point less economy.
The center seats fold really well to a near flat and the rear seat completely disappears to flat. This means the rearmost portion is genuinely flat floored but the mid section is not. As an example, you could not easily sleep on the floor.
