Don't know why I do this but.... that S2 has me thinking. So what would beca good bike engine swap? BMWs are, generally built like cars: engine-clutch-trans-driveshaft. Not the biggest hp but almost anything makes more power than that modified Renault 16 lump

First be sure you know the answer to this:  Do you fit inside a Europa?
I do not.

Lol. I do, with a massive Gurney bubble. Yeah, I'm 6'4" with a 32" inseam. I look over the frame on my bugeye, so yeah.  Hell, I don't fit in an Esprit,  by about an inch or so. There will be definite customizing involved. Hell, maybe even a floor drop.

Myself: 6"1', 32 inseam, #250, size 10.5 wide shoe

I do not fit in a Europa but I owned the same Miata for 29 years.

Seems you do not fit either without significant modification.

My plan had been a Beemer classic K1100, but I'm always a day late and a dollar short! Wouldn't be the fastest, but would be my easy button, with a couple parts bikes available to me.

I'm BAIRLY up to speed on the '80s tech electronics in my Classic Ks. Trying to adapt the 06, without a full donor bike, would probably make my head explode!

Side note:

I remember, in the '80s, companies that advertised kits to convert a FI bike to carburetors, to overcome all those new fangled FI problems.
Same companies sold kits to convert your Carb bikes to FI, advertised as necessary to eliminate all those old fashioned carbed failings!

Anyway, would love to see your 12oo in a Lotus!

I sliced and rewelded my Europa's seat frame until I fit. I'm 6'0" all legs. It's basically a full size model car you can just cut and glue until it works.

Bike engine is so much effort for what, 100hp? Almost any modern car engine would be a substantial upgrade.

They are terrible cars and you should definitely buy it.

The problem with a car engine in a Europa is the transaxle, from what I can figure

I thought the point of the Europa was that it was so wee that 100hp would be a crazy amount of power.

How weird would it be to support the input shaft with a second bearing, put a sprocket where the clutch disk would go, and use the motorcycle engine's chain drive?  You could have like 30 forward gears!

I've been summoned.

I fit in mine at 6'3", pretty balanced. If you take out the stock seat and come up with a different seating solution you gain a few inches. I fit in the stock seat with about an inch to spare.

the 170-180 from the k8 gsxr1000 is definitely more than enough, plus it drops the weight from stock even more. I think a goldwing engine would be cool with the flat 6.

there's another guy that lives near me thats doing a v8 with a boxster transaxle, he's had to slice up the frame and firewall quite a bit to get it to fit.

that sounds like something someone that's never driven a europa at 14k rpm would say :) . literbike engines are putting out quite a bit more than 100hp, anyway

Oh! That's amazing! After my friends FIL took the gas money, and never showed, i assumed I'd lost that.
Im actually in Detroit working, but finish in a week or three! If i can get a hitch fabbed for the Audi, I can rent a trailer and swing by there on my way home!

EDIT:

just looked... "only" adds 3 1/2 hrs to my 13 1/2 hr trip home! Nothing to it.

my thought, there are way better bike engines, or even car engines to make one stupid fast. The owner/builder of the Toyota engined one says he wouldn't sell to most, cause it's scary powerful.
But the classic K is a (reasonably) light and compact package, with a ROCK SOLID reliability.
I'm kinda old now, and 600hp in a 1200 lb car is no longer of interest to me!

(disclaimer: the numbers are strictly made up, to emphasize a point cheeky)

Bike engined cars are just awesome.

180-200hp from a 230lb engine and transmission is tough to beat in a small car. There really is a big difference in how a 1500lb car drives vs a 1200-1300lb car.

You also get a sequential box and a glorious 14,000 rpm redline.......what's not to love.

You'll need to log in to post.
