I may be off base here but I think the name "motorsports" implies running vehicles.  I'd rather see something somebody built hauling tail around a track than sitting on jack stands in a dirty shop. wink

The originator - Dennis Brunton, passed away. Before he did so he sold the company to Scott Minehart, who has developed  a more modern version called the M-spec, with IRS and usually an LSX.

NOT limited to cars;  if you built it and it is done, post it up.

In that case...

Here's a surfboard I did this past summer. It is the biggest surfboard project I've ever done.  It was water-logged, poorly repaired and moldy(inside). Sadly I only have a photo from after cutting the cloth off. It was mostly delaminated anyways(don't buy dark colored surfboards).

Made a jig to route out the bad foam, vacuum bagged new higher-density foam in, abstract art, big heavy pinlines(thanks dad) and buffed out to a shine.

Are those things as tail happy as they look or does it just take some finesse?

They are super-well behaved. Not tail happy, and the tendency is to steer with the throttle, dialing in the exact slip angle you're after. My only beef was the live axle, which later models corrected for, and as open as they are, the wind and sun beats you up. Very motorcycle like in that respect.

In reply to Kreb :

The reason I say tail happy is those along with Cobra's seem to spin out at least once everytime I see them at an autocross.  Maybe those drivers just aren't good at steering with the throttle.  I'd definitely like to try one out.

In reply to Patientzero :

Sorry to hog the thread, but that pretty well means that the driver sucks (or is overexcited). I was new to Autocross when I'd built mine, and I thought that they gave everyone those little checkered flag stickers after each race. It was only later that I realized that I was dominating E-mod.

Almost 900 hours went into the construction.  As an example of the level of detail, here's the instrument panel, constructed entirely from scratch:

That would be a different thread. I want to see physical proof that people finish projects. The goal is to motivate other people to do the same and also so I can see a whole lot of neat stuff in one thread. Maybe germinate some new ideas for future projects. Could not care less how they perform.

High end model making always amazes me. I am not a detail person but have a lot of respect for those that are.

In an attempt to offset the cost of the car hobby, I do some shell rehab as a beer barter thing. What I really enjoy seeing is when the shells go home and subsequently become finished cars. This one had to come a long way but turned out to be one of the nicest MGB GTs I have seen.

You're not close to Missouri are you?  I can do basically anything except paint and sheetmetal.  I have a C10 that I started to replaced the rockers and cab corners on over 2 years ago...

Thanks! Looks a little different with the slicks on instead of the tow tires that you have seen, eh?
