Semi utterly annihilated my brother's EK civic. Sad because it had a Type R swap but good because he wants a RWD car to replace it.

Basically he wants to move on to someone that is larger and more powerful complete with the torques his civic was missing and his budget is limited. He has mechanical knowledge but I wouldn't want to get him a complicated car (he didn't do the type R swap he bought that car like that). He wants to do track days with me now instead of just autocross as well and hes a JDM fanboy.

I've recommended him to get a MK3 Supra or a Z31 300zx, both turbo. I count out the FC RX7 because he needs something on the more reliable side and I never hear anything good about that car. I tried to convince him at first to get a MK2 MR2 Turbo but he more or less wants a GT car.

If you were to get either of these cars which would be the better choice? Aside from MK3 Supra headgasket issues as I know how to prevent that problem. Keep in mind he primarily wants this car for track days and plans on purchasing a brand new DD at tax return season.

I've heard the Z31 has fairly bad handling and the MK3 Supra has great handling..... which is strange because I look up curb weights for both of those cars and the Z31 Turbo is 2900-3000 while the Supra is like 3500lbs or more almost as if it's a M5.

Also the answer is not miata. Car must be fixed hardtop if you have any other recommendations.

Thanks :)

While i like both of those cars, i don't think i'd use either of them as a dedicated track car.

He needs an E36 BMW.

The Supra carves corners because it's SLA suspension all-around. The Z31's handling problems are largely due to the savage power delivery once the boost kicks in.

A good and fast car, but yeah it's pretty damn heavy and not easy on consumables. Still I'd say go for it.

^If it's not a TT model or he doesn't plan to boost it, I'd agree an E36 might be better though, I'd go for a ligther E30 myself. But without boost the Supra's weight isn't worth hauling around.

Can he afford a z32 300zx? Seems like a good combination of what he is looking for.

Yes, what is his price range? Around here, you can get a 350Z for about 10K.

For example, this one.

Out of all of those cars I agree with you about the Mk2 MR2 Turbo. That's the car I'd want...

If he doesn't want a complicated car a Z32 Turbo is out of the question...one of the most complicated cars ever (at least to work on).
