I kinda got distracted during one of the Toyobaru BRZ-86 discussions by this graphic.
Turns out you can use the Tire Rack image database and a little bit of fooling around to make your own. Nothing too vintage, but it's still fun.
2011 Camaro vs E30 M3
E39 M5 vs Dodge Challenger
Fox-body Mustang vs current Mustang
I'm going to send a note to my buddies at Tire Rack and see if they'll cough up some of the database info to make this into a little web toy.
Any others for requests?
I want to see a Spitfire next to a new Camaro.
Well, since you asked . . .
E36 M3 coupe vs. Z3M coupe vs. Z4M coupe.
just to see what fits where, you know?
thanks!
Lotus Elise vs. Hummer H1
EDIT: Never mind, all I want to know is here: http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f3/hummer-h1-vs-elise-16061/
Yikes.
I can only do cars that are in the Tire Rack wheel machine. So, no Spitfires. No old 500s. No FB RX-7s - that one's a shame. Give me a specific year, makes it much easier than trying to figure out what year an FB is or when the 944 was for sale.
Also, some of the cars that have been there the longest have some crunchy images. Deal with it I'll do a few now because they're fun, and we'll see if it's possible to automate this later.
The NC isn't really THAT much bigger than the NA.
P71 vs Challenger
E36 M3 vs the two M coupes. Not much difference between the Z cars other than the rear roofline.
That is an E46 M3, not a E36
Wow, the NA and NC Miata's are a lot closer than I thought. The 944 is also smaller than I thought it would be. Look at the difference in the wheels on the Camaro!!!
Since TR doesn't have some cars (no FB RX-7, really??!!?), try the 84 SC 911 vs the 2012 911.
And as a B-Spec funny: MINI vs 500 vs Mazda2

And that's why I need the years, not the otaku code.
Now with more E36.
How closely do the tire rack images scale?
Pretty much dead on, as far as I can tell. I checked a few using wheel diameter and they're all 3 pixels/inch in wheel size. Makes sense, they need to be scaled the same for the wheel machine.
I can't think of one I want to see right now, but I love this game.

Wow, those 3 are a lot closer in size than I was thinking!
Huh... so Challengers aren't bigger than P71s in every measurable way. The P71 is clearly a couple inches longer
Still limited by what's in the database. No vintage stuff!
Unfortunately, there appear to only be a couple of 911s represented. The 1993 is the earliest one, and is used as a stand-in for other aircooled 911s. The 2012 has not yet visited the studio. Not surprising really. Give me a year breakdown and I'll see if I can find other variants.
This one's hard to believe. Checking the wheel size says the scaling is right.
Last one. I'm going to the Thunderhill 25 hour tomorrow morning, so this will probably be it for a while.
