Has anyone ever seen one? Other than in Jeep commercials I've never seen one but it seems like a great way to figure out those weird rattle/thump/clunks that cars develop over time instead of trying to describe it to your mechanic. It would save endless frustration for the tech as well.
Picture a big rack that could actuate each corners' suspension at speed to isolate the problem.
I've seen one. But it was in a shop using it for CART car chassis tuning.
They did a Sin wave sweep and slowly increased the frequency... that was awesome to watch. Then "played" the data for a full track through it (I forget which), and it was awesome again.
The engineering department at theoem ghave them. Astronomically expensive.
But there has to be a diy/low use/cheap option.

Every time I was chasing a squeak, rattle, or clunk at the dealership I wanted one.

The mental pictures of this is funny as berkeley.

Same here. My DD has a light clunk from the rear suspension that I cannot recreate in the garage. It's infuriating.

1. get a car with hydraulics
2. flip it over
3. set car your testing on top of the hydraulic car, wheels to wheels
4. hit the switches
Don't know why, but this sounds extremely dirty to me. Thanks for the laugh
MTS in Minnesota builds them: http://www.mts.com/en/products/application/ground-vehicles/full-vehicles/noise-vibration-harshness/index.htm I used to know a bunch of people who worked there.
And I thought you guys were talking about one of these.
Just come drive in Michigan. Your car will be shaken on every road.

That looks pretty cool. Now to get my local indie mechanic to install one in his shop and charge $50 to use it......
I saw one in the sound room in Spartanburg at BMW Plant 10 with a X6 on it.
For the record, according to BMW engineers the non-turbo 5 series 2wd is the best car they make.

NJ inspection stations used to have oblong rollers to slam the suspension all over the place and break all the trim in you car. Hated those things, always failed that damn test.
