When I met my wife, she had an '03 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. It was the ugly Eclipses as far as I was concerned. Low rent plastic interior, slow, and automatic.
It was, however, one of the funnest cars to drive. Handled like it was on a rail. The "Shiftronic" automatic would hold gears without shifting on its own. I had a blast driving that car and it got good mileage on top of it.
The only thing that I absolutely hated, was that there was a "dead spot" that kind of felt like turbo lag. Other than that it was a blast to drive aggressively.
