So I had to pull the axles in the elky. Diff fluid was blacker than the paint.

Should I hose out the inside with brake clean or anything while the cover is off?

No metal or debris, so that's good.

Anything else i should check while It's open?

NO. Do not clean it with brake cleaner. Some cleaners will due more harm then good to Yellow metals used in bushings and bearing cages. If you really feel its to nasty to close back up use Mineral sprits and some jack stands to slowly roll in 1st dump and repeat until clean. If it were me I'd tape a rag to a broom handle to make a "canon ram" wet the rag with sprits and clean the tubes. and refill with cheap 80-90 gear oil drive 2000 or so miles dump and refill.

I usually just flush it with some cheap gear oil before replacing with a quality oil. Even customers get a healthy, flush of gear oil before the cover or drainplug goes back.
