I Want to run a 10j rear steel rim but i cannot find the offset I require.

Can the insert part be cut out and moved?

Running 8j all around so I could sacrifice an existing rim for parts.

Can this be done professionally ?

They are also chrome plated so thats another hurdle...

Years ago, I cut the centers from some 7" wide GM wheels and welded in centers from Chrysler K-car wheels to create 14x7 wheels for my VW GTI. I autocrossed on them for 2 or 3 years without issue. The chrome would have to be removed to weld properly, but otherwise it should work.

Im increasing the backspace so won't see the area that's been hacked.

I can only get the wheels with -44 offset. I require -6

Did you make a jig for alignment?

Circle track wheel manufactures will gladly build a set of wheels for you in the offsets you require if you aren't too attached to the wheels you have now.

Yeah, I remember Diamond would make steel wheels in any bolt pattern, size and offset for $125 a wheel. I was looking into them so that I could run 15" wheels on my Subaru Loyale, because they run a funky 4x140 bolt pattern

You will have to inspect the wheel and take note of where the center is attached to the hoop. It is usually in the drop center

Does the drop center on your wheels extend the 38mm in the direction you need?

In the past I have sent wheels to Stockton wheel for this service. I have also attempted it myself but at the time got stuck because the interference fit they use is on the level of ludicrous.  I maxxed out a 25 ton press trying to push out the center after cutting the welds and got nothing. They told me they use a 65 ton press at Stockton.

I had access to a nice big 1" thick welding table, so the rim and the center were both clamped down to the table. I had a steel spacer between the center and the table to assure all 4 wheels were the same offset. I have seen videos where the fabricator trues the wheels up by spinning them on a hub and knocking them lightly with a hammer, too. Budget permitting, I'll be constructing a wider set of wheels for my Challenge car and I'll probably just true them up on a hub before tacking them together.

To Jumper K Balls point about the centers being tight, yours may be even worse because the chrome plating would have been added after the wheels were welded . The chrome will make the press fit even tighter. You may have to reverse the rim on the center to get the offset you want, too, which will put the valve stem on the back side of the wheel.

Ok thanks for the info.

The 10j rims I'm looking at have large drop center and the extra area is the direction i want to move the inner section.

I have a spare rim that i might try and disassemble just to see how difficult it is.

There's really just 4 welds to contend with..

Getting it out might be hardest. The edge could always be filed to help get it to its new location.

Will welding near chrome destroy it??

I'm about 7/8" away from the seen, outside area that is chromed..
