I'm starting to think about picking up a GM pickup. I'll use the truck to plow my driveway, tow the Miata and maybe carry a small, slide in camper, possibly while towing the Miata. I was leaning toward the 2500HD.

I have a light duty snowplow for my current truck that I was planning to transfer over. On the plow website, I found that it is compatible with the 1500, but not the 2500. I knew that the 2500 would have heavier duty everything compared to the 1500 (brakes, axles, diffs, transmission, etc), but is the frame actually different and not just reinforced?

Adding the cost of another plow to fit on a 2500 would pretty much squash this whole idea.

yes. the frames are different from the lightduty 1500 to the HD2500's.

I guess what I meant to ask is this:

Is the geometry different, or is it just heavier gauge metal?

It's an old game. For any mfr, in any year, there were TWO trucks plated as 3/4 ton.

One was a half-ton, with HD suspension bits. The other was a one-ton, with less spring. The 2500HD was the 1-ton.

Whole different animal. I bought a 2500HD and have attempted to tap the cheap 1500 parts market for caps, plows, etc ... no dice. Like someone mentioned... the 2500HD is a 3500 with less spring. A 1500/2500 is... well, ... er... not one of those.

what year is the old truck, and what year is the new truck?

either way, you don't need a whole new plow- either buy the proper mounting bracket for the HD for a couple hundred dollars or fire up the welder and make it fit.

There's no frame mount available for the 2500 from the plow manufacturer. I'd have to fab one up.
