The clutch in my Z killed itself last week. How do you all feel about Spec brand clutches, or Centerforce? I want something a little stronger than stock since I plan to turbo my engine soon... that will get me to 200 hp - ish. Thank you!

The turbo Miata at our shop is running a Spec clutch that's held up well even though it's making nearly three times the stock horsepower. It's a 4 puck race unit that doesn't engage too smoothly, but they have street oriented ones too.
I dunno about Spec, they've had some pretty well-publicized failures on the web lately
I personally have used RAM, Centerforce, and McLeod race style clutches and Exedy street ones. I liked them all. Stay away from "puck" units if you plan on street driving at all. Something like a Centerforce Dual-Friction should be more then enough for your application.
Weird, I've had issues with the centerforce dual-friction units on even a mildly built 2.2 turbo and I wasn't the only one (of course Centerforce wouldn't admit there was a problem even after being provided proof, oh well). I think it comes down to application more than anything. I have heard universally that clutchnet makes great products.
I've done a couple centerforce stage 1's with no issues.
frankly, for only 200hp, unless you expect to be making a lot more power soon, I'd get something stock-ish.
Thanks for the advice. I guess it comes down to lots and lots of research. Where would we be without the internet to guide us in these decisions? I'd be lost. Thanks again
I've been very pleased with the Stage 1 Exedy clutches I have in both the '95 Miata and the '88 323 GTX. It's a nice upgrade for a mostly street car.
