I have a set of used SM coil over and as I was assembling it to put the FCM mount kit I found that one of the pinch screws couldn't be turned with a regular hex key. The good thing is that it's loose so I can still turn the perch up and down. My questions are:
1. Is the pinch screw really needed?
2. If so, how do I take the damaged one off the perch and where can I get a replacement pinch screw? I believe it's the AWR perch for SM kit. Thanks all.
I think what you refer to as the "pinch screw" is just a set screw using an internal allen socket. Just use some common penetrating oil on it and it should come free. You could also use some heat. The set screw is going to be some common thread, either US or Metric and I have never had a problem finding one at my local hardware store.
Bottom line you may not need the set screw. As long as the springs are always under tension the adjusters don't usually move. Not saying they won't but I haven't seen it happen on my coil overs.

and if you've reamed out the insides of the set screw then take an allen wrench of the proper size and put a drop of epoxy on it and push it into the set screw ... let it set up ( several hrs to be sure ) and after the penetrating oil has had time to work ... turn it out ....
