For what it's worth, I like the sidepipes.

BTW, the color is showing very badly in all of these pics. Here's a recent pic of the car (just for color reference) with my XR in the foreground:

I like the sidepipes, too, and the ugly wheels look tough.

Remember Tokyo Drift and the stock RB26-powered Mustang? I read somewhere that it was so underpowered that the crew used a V-8-powered 'Stang during the climactic drift scene and dubbed the RB26 sound over it. Sounds kind of sacrilegious to me, dropping in a less-powerful import engine, although a properly-tuned RB26DETT-powered Mustang would be a monster.

I was thinking, what else would be considered sacrilege in an old Mustang? Why, a rotary of course! Then I did some Googling and found that I got beat to the punch... by the Curtiss-Wright Aircraft Corp.

Still, a 20B-powered Mustang would be awesome. Mmmm... 20B-powered Mustang... Sacrelicious!

I guess I'm pretty safe then... it's not like I'm doing this:

... though I really kinda like the chopped roof.

I am a Mustang guy, and I dig the original chop (with proper BS of course) side pipes and all. I'd rock it.

that mitsubishi mustang is the wildest thing that I've ever seen. my entire world has changed twice today, so far. first, I saw an esprit turbo and got to talk to the guy who drives it every day.
and now this...

I love the original 'Shop. It looks like a Japanese interpretation of a musclecar.

Do it. I'm considering the same kind of thing with my 79 firebird. Fender flares, black steel wheels, and other trick parts. I want a "purpose built" look, so no chrome, a flat paint, and some exposed metal pieces.

shave the door handles(use door poppers)....... it'll make the side much sexier

The 1970 was pretty hard to beat for a looker, I had a 428SCJ back in the early 90s and the market just wouldn't allow me to build it anyway but stock.

Actually, the whole Mustang and MCA experience turned me to the Toyota side, and I haven't looked back since

That must be the answer to "What is the most expensive way to build a 9 second Mustang?"

It was a torque issue with the RB powered car. I read an article years back that showed that the RB car was actually faster through the quarter mile, but it didn't have the low end grunt to drift easily.

FWIW, I like the chop, sidepipes and all. Like it better than the way the car looks in real life. Do it.

Well, I'm not a purist or anything, but if that is a real Mach I, I'd say no to it. I like the look, but do it to a standard Mustang, not a Mach. And while they only look good on certain cars, I will go on record and say I think side pipes are the next big thing. I love driving a car with them, and I think your car would look good with them or without them.

Change the 80's sidepipes for Trans-Am style side exhaust dumps, in black of course. And the wheels still need much, much more lip on them to go with the cool as hell flares. +1 on trying for the 98-02 P71 16" steelies, I have them on the Javelin.

aside from the model year difference, and the more tame color scheme, your photoshop made me think of vaughn gitten jr's rtr-x

although i think his is a full carbon fiber body or something.

btw i like your idea better. so i vote DO IT

What i'd do is make it so the sidepipes didn't stick out or draw attention as much. Dump em right before the rear wheels, but fabricate some sort of false rocker/bodykit that covers up the chrome. Sidepipes don't do much for me. Other than that, it's a killer look and I wouldn't hesitate.

Car looks damn good on the setup it has now, FWIW.
