It is free to view the pictures on the IAA website but I think I had to drop down the $200 "annual member fee" and get a badge/ID before I could enter the yard and actually lay hands on the cars.

At my IAA, every inspection/preview day I have to show my badge to the guard and he writes down my name and number on his log sheet giving entry time and exit time.  He knows me by name now but still the forma write down process every time.  I believe my badge allows me to bring 1 additional person in with me (though I have never brought anyone.)

I have written a lot in this older thread and the subsequent threads linked within.

I'll watch the Corvette auction out of curiosity, but the prebid is up to $8200, so I'm definitely out at this point.

Wednesday I watched a flood damaged Mustang GT with a Texas certificate of destruction (meaning, parts only vehicle, theoretically) go for $8800! I don't know for sure but that seemed really high.

MR2 with 405k miles, and It’s not like it looks well cared for.  Impressive.

That's nice and no damage just wear and tear. Wonder if it was a grey market import or what its doing in there. Sold for 7500

Corvette sold for 12,600 thats a bit high in my estimation for something with a salvage title

I just watched a 2005 neon with accident damage but "runs and drives" go for $70.

The 2006 Corvette went for $12,600. Might be a good deal to the right person but that's not me right now. If you could source a good complete tail panel already in the right color for a reasonable price it could be a great deal.

Edit: Simulposting! I agree, seems high. Especially if you're planning on resale.

Searching the vin on google image is also a good way to find out if the car has been wrecked and partially fixed and then re-auctioned as well

The 996tt in Nashville goes up for auction on Monday,  so I plan to swing by tomorrow and have a look.

That 335 with no rear bumper goes up the 16th  too. Current bid is 3500 bucks looks like it might even just be the cover?

I went and looked a the silver 996tt in Nashville today.  Beautiful car and very clean,  but the right rear quarter is buckled in a couple of spots and the jamb is pushed forward into the door.  I didn't notice that in the pictures,  so definitely glad I took a close look before bidding.  The car is already over 14k and I'll bet it tops 20k,  which is definitely more than I'd want to be in it for with the damage I saw.

Just goes to show like you said really need to look at these things in person I've also heard of tons of shady stuff being done to make the cars photograph better for auction. Like pieces just sort of set in the right place or dropping a fender ontop of a wheel that isnt even attached

In reply to Jaynen :

Yes,  I took another look at the pictures after I saw the car in person and you just can't tell how bad it's tweaked from the photos.  I was getting pretty serious about bidding,  so am grateful I saw it in person.  It's currently at 16,400 and the auction is Monday.

I appreciate the real world reminder because I have been close to wanting to bid on some things I could not see in person too. Even stuff in Charlotte is 2hrs each way not really easy to do on a weekday unless I was super serious and took a day off work

I wonder if you could buy this Jetta and then sell it back to VW?

Earlier this year, when I got involved with IAA, the first car I bought was this Repo, 2009 Pontiac Vibe w/80k.  My bid was $1.9k which with fees went to $2.5k.  I added about $500 to it in small repairs, taxes and registrations, etc. so I had about $3k into it.

Once I decided to not keep it, I sold it on CL in less than 5 days for $4.7k (and likely could have held out for $500-$1k more.)

Sure enough, this week in my local Cleveland CL the is another Repo, 2009 Pontiac Vibe w/85k.  Pretty much identical except for the color black rather than grey.  I'd be all over this except...The Challenge.  Auction is Tues and I leave Tues for Gainesville.  The bidding part would be easy, the payment on-time and the pickup on-time is the difficulty.  Oh well, there will be another 500 cars the next week too.

My problem with the Nashville copart is just about everything requires a dealer license,  so I always have to go through a broker,  which is a hassle.  I have a dealer buddy that might let me use his license,  so I plan to ask next time I see him.  I was browsing last night a found quite a few I want to bid on.
