Paul (Gimp) hooked me up big time at Nats this year with the wheels and tires. I think the "negotiation" went something like this -

I keep wanting a Mustang, but the only thing that keeps me from actually buying one is that they keep getting better. About the time I find one I like, Ford builds a better one.
"Ooh, I need a Mach One"--then the 05 comes out.
"Ooh, I need an S197"--then the Shelby GT comes out.
"Ooh, I need a Shelby GT"--then the 5.0 comes out.
"Ooh, I need a 5.0"--then the 2015 comes out.
That's Ford's MO. If you keep waiting for the best one, you'll never pull the trigger. It's also the reason that Ford is able to sell a new car every year or two to the guys who have to have the best one.
For me, the price dictated the buy. I wanted an S197, and I wanted it for less than $10K. That meant that the Shelby's, the 5.0's, etc. might as well not exist.

I've been toying with the thought of an S197 as well. Are there any issues with the vert cars versus coupes? Being in FL it would be great to have, but don't want a ton of extra hassle. If I'm looking in the 06-09 range with decently low miles, should I have a backup stash to redo the top in the near future?

My '06 top was perfect at 60k miles. I don't think that they are problematic. I also put mine down a lot...
No real rattles or squeaks to speak of and it lived here on crappy Baltimore roads.
Saw my first 2015 Mustang yesterday. Here's hoping for continued trickle-down depreciation.

We had a 2013 then a 2014 Vert. Kept both for about 30K miles, loved them both and would have a Vert in a heart beat. There is actually more head room in the rear of the Vert with the top up than in the Coupe if that matters. For two years Mustangs were our main family SUV and my wife hauled three teenage girls on the 25 min each way school run with them. They make very practical DD's until your youngest tops 5'9" and is taller than your 'short' 5'8" wife, then you tend to grow out of them

Thanks for the real-world experience, always helpful. I had an AP1 S2k at about 90k miles and it was getting to be time for a new top when I sold it.
