In my defense, I was left alone.
Just me and the dog. I told her we’d spend some quality time together on the couch during the holidays. She loves to snuggle.
What’s streaming tonight?
First movie: What’s more American than racing cars from coast to coast? How about racing from coast to coast while killing innocent bystanders?
Welcome to “Death …

And I think we showed Death Race 2000 in school. Maybe?
I was part of the student union group that ran the school’s movie theater. We did midnight movies Friday and Saturday. It was awesome. All of it.
Based on the trailer and a few screen grabs, Death Race 2000 is certainly...interesting.
In reply to Colin Wood :
It's like Cannonball. It's so bad it's good.
I saw it in the theater in 1975 as a 13yr old, and just saw Cannonball again recently.
Both Paul Bartel movies, so a little out there
LeMans (1971) and Grand Prix. (1966)
I'd prefer The original Italian Job along with the Gumball Rally.
For about 6-7 years my wife would buy me crap B movie CDs and on New Year's Eve I'd have some buddies over to watch them.
Death Race 2000 was a fan favorite; my son was about 14 at the time and he said "this movies sucks so bad it's good".
My double feature pairng would be On Any Sunday and the Little Fauss and Big Halsey.

Smokey and The Bandit.
Hooper.
You don't see Stallone naked in either of those.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
For years my brother and I quoted how many points things were worth..............
Not car-themed, but I'll see your double feature and raise you with the glorious trifecta of Charlton Heston dystopian sci-fi: Planet of the Apes, The Omega Man, and Soylent Green.

Sci-Fi double feature, hard to beat Silent Running and Logan's Run. Maybe throw in Saturn 3 for a triple play.
My dogs haven't seen any of these yet. Time for a movie night.
Little Fauss and Big Halsey looks interesting. Motorcycles from the 1970s.
In fact, 1970 is a sweet spot for movies. Lots of cool cars because it was in the muscle car era before the oil embargo. Lots of counter culture because hippies and Vietnam. Lots of motorcycles and dirt bikes because the Japanese were building them like crazy and the Hells Angels/Harley biker culture was going strong. Not much story or script, just because.

Saturn 3. That was actually the first VHS cassette I ever bought right after the first VHS player/recorder I ever bought. I still have a blu ray copy.
It was an ITC/Sir Lew Grade British Production. The same guys who did Space 1999 and all the Gerrry Anderson supermarionation stuff that I also like.
Harvey Kietel wouldn't admit doing the movie. Almost as bad as his role as a record producer in "That's the Way of the World". Another obscure one I would add to my movie night.
The best lines in Canonball Run were when they copied notes on things that actually happened in the real race. Apparently the dialog with the cops pulling the ambulance over was a try at reconstructing Brock Yates and a doctor trying to bluff their way out of an arrest almost word for word. So was Mad Dog's questions at the hotel desk - his character was toned down for the movie (and the actor looked nothing like the real Mad Dog, perhaps to maintain plausible deniability).
Corvette Summer and Star Wars: A New Hope. Sci-fi and car guy all in one day. With Annie Potts and Carrie Fisher to boot!
Gumball Rally is the movie that Cannonball and especially Cannonball Run should have been
Unofficial, but more true to the event concept.
American Graffiti and Two-Lane Blacktop. Same '55 Chevy, same prowling, searching, longing for something out there, whatever it is.
American Graffiti and More American Graffiti. I rate the latter higher than most people. First time I saw it, I was sorely disappointed, but it's grown on me.
Dolomite and Black Dynamite. I have a soft spot for blaxploitation and parody.
What else, what else...
Being a huge fan of the original Carmageddon 1 & 2, I was excited to discover Death Race 2000. I think I turned it off after 25 mins it was so terrible.

There is a part towards the end of the movie where Robert Redford is running a Yamaha 250GP bike solo at Sears Point. For those of us who raced small GP bikes the sound is glorious.

Death proof and Planet Terror were good together.
On Any Sunday and Dust to Glory.
Maximum Overdrive and Christine.

Pootie Tang?
The ultimate blaxploitation parody. Written and directed by Louis CK before he was banned from the entertainment industry.
Sa da tay!

Top Gun and Iron Eagle.
