Growing up in the late 80's and early 90's the maxima was such a cool car- so sad to see Nissan be such a junk brand now. The Mitsubishi comment was spot on. I actually like the platinum reserve titan interior- but then that exterior....ugh.

I'm shocked to learn that Nissan still builds these. I give them credit for building something interesting when these were new, but that was years ago. Nissan disappointed me with their huge drop in quality from the 90's to 2000's. My '96 Maxima was an an extremely well built car. It's part of the reason I bought my Titan new in '04. But the drop in quality was astounding. Mechanically, it has been rock solid the whole time I've owned it. But they cheaped out big time on the quality of the interior materials, paint, and trim, nothing like the old Maxima that looked like new at 10 years.

My parents bought a '96 Maxima GLE used in '98. My parents were Oldsmobile people, and going with a Nissan was a bit out of their comfort zone, but they were glad they did. That car was one of the best cars they ever had. They had it for about 18 years. Only issues it ever had were it needed an alternator once, it needed the knock sensor replaced, and the trunk floor started to rust out. It died getting T-boned by a Jeep Wrangler that blew a stop sign a few years back, but as old as it was, it held up well in the accident and saved my dad's life. If that never happened, they would likely still have the thing. It was such a well-built car.

Trans is the worst problem but the hVe plenty of other problems.

I think the early rogues are some of the least reliable modern cars out there. I used to see them constantly and at about 80k they had probably already suffered a trans failure and almost every component of the suspension, was leaking/loose/or broken or it needed an ac system. It was pretty common to see a couple year old rogue with less than a 100k with a 4 to 5k estimate.

The new ones are like every other Nissan suv and the fans are dying and Nissan can't make them fast enough and has almost no stock. The lack of a fan coupled with normal consumers means car shouldn't be driven unless you want to risk and engine failure
