E150 van

Found a cheap and local E150 van. Has the 5.0L/auto. It's been sitting for a bit. Seller says it will run by squirting starter fluid into the TB, but not off the fuel pump. He suspects that the tank needs to be dropped/cleaned as it has been sitting for a "year or so". Key is broken off in ignition, mileage reads "error". It's a cargo van, has a pretty decent interior and supposedly the AC works. ~150K miles he says, but of course no way to verify. Tires look pretty good.

Sounds E36 M3ty I know, but $600?

Ford guys....what kind of damage am I looking at to get this thing to move down the road? I wanted a cheap truck but a cheap van that would haul a bike or 2 and be more secure is even better!

If the mileage is reading error could the ECU be at fault? In any event, $600 is about scrap value, and you cant throw a rock at any pick and pull in the USA without hitting 5 econoline vans.

We have a van of similar vintage at work that does the same thing. Some days it won't crank, spray some ether and it starts right up

So we keep a can of ether in it lol

Also, an E150 like your combo broke the distance record, it went something like 1.3 million miles before needing an overhaul, breaking the gasoline engine record by several thousand I think.

They just won't die.

The local SCCA chapter sold me their 93 E250 tow van with 107K for $500. I spent a day cleaning it up, polishing the windshield, touching up rusty rain rails and now, a year later it is still looking good and going strong. Just about everyone in the neighborhood has borrowed it at one time or another. I mainly use it for Home Depot runs, runs to the dump and to flat-tow my Miata to autox events. I plan on being buried in it!

For $600 grab it! Might need a fuel pump, but I doubt the tank needs dropping. Even if it does, about the easiest vehicle there is to drop a fuel tank off. Key in the ignition means you will never lose the key... also an easy fix. Unless the mileage error is affecting the ECU operation, drive it. My '94 E150 is about the toughest vehicle I have ever owned. Flat tows my E30 to events, hauls equipment and dogs. Never getting rid of mine either.

My van worked itself into the ground, towed my heavy trailer and various projects all over the country, Ohio to Florida, Virginia, Texas, Oklahoma and more.

Rust finally won but that 351 was still a beast.

I'm actively searching for just such a van. I'm looking for just the right pos van though. Vans are awesome.

I still keep thinking box truck. But a van would be more generally useful. Wife approval for either = not happening

I think that was a Ford van with a 7.3L PowerStroke engine not a gas engine.
