In reply to Aspen:
Is that starting out with a 325 or 328, or does it matter?
In reply to Huckleberry:
Your wagon is AWD too? That's bizarre that none of the literature mentions that. Must have been a late '05 change or something.
In reply to pointofdeparture:
Yeah. It's AWD, 2.5 aluminum block, ZF trans, sport & winter packages were the only options. It's no frills all the way. It's got BMW pleather seats, no BT, nav or external temp display that is in every other one.
It sits here much of the time since my wife got a new car (waiting for my son to make good on his payments, he turns 16 in 2 weeks) but I logged 600 miles in the rain after work yesterday with it. It's a damn nice ride for tearing across the state and back @ 80 MPH with an entire endurance car suspension and wheels in the back. My one major pet peeve is that the headlights suck. I'd try to find one with factory HIDs or something better than the H7 wire bulbs.

Initial cost or projected repair cost?
In reply to bigdaddylee82:
It doesn't matter. It's called the stage 3 intake which includes DISA valves to optimize airflow. The ECU flash optimizes the DISA stuff. Both motors end up at 260hp or so afterward. I don't think there are any hardware differences between the 325 and 328, it's just tuning.

Regardless of what I pay for a car, I end up doing all the same stuff to it anyway.

20" chrome rims don't come cheap, I know.
NMNA. A mighty fine unicorn. 51k mi manual wagon with sport package. http://newyork.craigslist.org/wch/cto/5554739506.html
Woody - I believe you said you need an auto, but see this link. It's in lower Westchester, about 10-15 min from me. If I hadn't just picked up a 330 sedan I'd be all over it. Happy to go check it out for you this weekend if you like.
In reply to ManhattanM (fka NY535iManual):
Thanks. I saw that yesterday but I'm out of state right now. If it's still there in a day or two I'll give him a call. I'm close to Westchester and had an old friend contact me today about my Z3. He may be interested and that would help move things along.
I could totally live with another clutch pedal in my life.

Gone before I could get to it. That one looked pretty nice too.

I kinda agree. I love the way that the E46 looks, but I drove an E91 328xiT last week and I really, really liked the way that it drove. That particular example had some issues though.
The hunt continues...
One caution on the E9X front: Before buying the very clean e46 330 I just picked up to replace my SAAB DD(sale listing coming soon!) I cross-shopped E90/91s. At least in Westchester/Southern CT, the E91s that I found in the same price range were mostly higher mileage cars that were ridden hard and put away wet. The scope of the deferred catch up maintenance is about the same, but I found E9x parts prices to be a fair bit higher across the board. Not a "yuge" difference, but it adds up. For example, the cooling system refresh is bigger $$$.
Found this on the BMWCCA site and thought of you.

I've decided that you're right. The E91 is now the car that I'm looking for. AWD, RWD, manual or automatic. I'll consider any of them. It will all come down to condition and mileage.
It's time to get serious about moving my Z3 to a new home. I haven't advertised it anywhere but here. A friend has expressed some interest in it in the past. I'm going to contact him and see if he's found another car yet. After that, it's going to CL and eBay.
Maybe I can find someone who wants to trade...

You have made the correct decision.
Hm, mileage is a little high.
In reply to Harvey:
I'm not a big fan of tan interior (especially in a dog hauler), but that blue is my first choice.

I think I'm going to take a ride down there this afternoon. Thanks for the tip.
The rear hatch is still black no matter what colour the seats are. Mine has oyster leather, but black carpet and black hatch stuff. That's where the dog goes.
If you try to find a RWD, STD wagon with no sunroof, you will be looking until the end of time. I didn't think a sunroof delete existed until a picture was posted on this board. I would wager that 90% of the wagons are Auto X-drive with sunroof, 5% X-drive STD and the rest RWD. Most of the RWD would be special ordered by enthusiasts who keep them until death.

I wish that were the case...
