Isn't that the one that really likes blowing the head gasket because the published(and factory used) torque specs are wayyyy light? Thus allowing you to buy one cheap, slap a head gasket and timing kit on it, crank the bolts down correctly and have something fun to play with.

The gaskets around the tail lights on mine leaked. The spare tire well would be the only thing that got wet. Take a look down there.

Oldeskewltoy are you the guy from Orion Engineered Motorwerks?

back on topic...I DD a 87 turbo for about 4 years and had and for the most part it was a good car( mine was a very abused example when i got it). It let me down several times though some major some minor heres the ones i can remember.

-one time the crank pulley bolt worked its way loose and destroyed my crank pulley,

-it blew a head gasket

-both knock sensor's failed

-wiring harness was supper brittle, and need lots of patching

-clutch master and slave failed

-abs senor's died

-heater core sprung a leak

-throttle cable snapped

and for all its problems i'm constantly on the look out for another one

The car made good power though with minimum mods it made 420ish whp i'll have to find the dyno sheet

-boost controller

-3' downpipe

-3'exhaust

-intercooler piping

-ct26 with 57 trim upgrade

-550cc injectors

-lex maf

-safc

Supraforums.com is the best one I know of, just make sure to read the FAQs and search thoroughly before asking questions...like any modern import forum there is a fair amount of douchiness.

They're mad heavy. Seats are easy lightening targets, after that it gets a lot harder. Getting them under 3klbs requires extreme modding.

thanks for the infos.

i was out somewhere with my wife and we saw one on a trailer. she says "ooh, supra! you should get one of those!" that's really the only reason i'm considering it.

Nope... although I do know Jeff, I've never worked with, or for him... He did do some plot work for me.

they really are no more heavy than modern cars in it's class however it's certainly heavy for the late 80s and early 90s.

that can easily be offset with more boost or a turbo upgrade to bring it up to modern power levels.

that is heavier than i thought, was thinking like 3500lbs. 3800lbs for a car from the 80s is kind of ridiculous. A Z31 weighs like 3000-3200lbs, RX7 turbo can be like 3000lbs, and R32 Skyline non-gtr weighs like 2800lbs. What did they make this car out of?

Solid steel. A friend stripped one to were it was only the chassis. Anything that could be removed was. The junkyard gave him ~$250.

It is a great GT car. Comfortable, built like a tank, they feel decently fast and handle pretty well. I personally really like them.

All I know is that the Goodyear Gatorback debuted as the OEM tires on that Supra, and I thought they were awesome.

Yes I liked them as well but never drove one unfortunately. There was an ultra-minty one at an autocross that was for sale that I should of bought though....

Angry---- they are a lot like a Japanese 928, or 6-Series. Great long-distance touring cars, they feel planted and solid, instead of light and flingable.

The targa-top makes the chassis seriously flexible when detached, but it's decent when it's in place. As with all older Toyotas--- look for rust.

Nice cars, but I'd get the very nicest (unmolested) example you can find. They are dirt cheap, so even a pristine one should be only $5K or so.

They are reasonably quick--- 14.6 quarter mile--- 145 mph top speed or so.

Totally agree. I had an '87 N/A as a daily driver. Decently quick and handled pretty well for a large and heavy car. It was an awesome GT car, could eat up huge chunks of mileage in quiet comfort.

WTF is wrong with craigslist sellers? no contact info in ad, so using the reply button is the only way to reach the seller. the ad has been updated every 5 days or so since sometime in October. i have responded to the ad 3 times and have not received a reply. so i flagged it, and will flag it every time it reappears.

Years ago I test drove a Canadian spec n/a (pretty cool to look at the speedo and see 240). It seemed really nice but the turning radius was about a half mile. I had to 3-point-turn on a 2 lane road. My 1970 Impala was tighter. I always thought that was really strange, but maybe something was broken.

In reply to ultraclyde:

Spinning the rear tires tightens the turning radius considerably.
