Koni Yellows are available for the Corollas on the same chassis as the Prizm, but Koni doesn't list them as fitting. Other struts do cross match. Do any of you know of any gotchas with putting Corolla Konis on my Prizm?
Yes, I am fully aware that my Prizm is worth less than a set of Konis and set of good springs, but I do intend to keep the car for a while since it's otherwise mechanically sound. It should make a nice rallycross beater when I'm done with it as a street car.
iirc same car different badge like everything is the same.
That's exactly my thought.
If the other struts cross, then I'm 99.9% sure the Koni's will fit. You can always call up Koni-NA (GRM Advertiser...) and ask. They are very helpful.
Drat, they close at 5PM EST. I'll have to give them a call tomorrow.
You'll probably have to wait until Monday. Can't order anything till then anyway.
I won't be ordering anything until I get the rust fixed.
Should bolt in, though IIRC the ball joints are slightly different and should be changed in pairs if needed.
The only thing that will cause an issue is that the konis require the original equipment kyb struts because they will be cut open and the konis will be slid inside them. if the prism uses a different diameter strut then you are out of luck (who knows with GM.). however as a last resort, kyb replacement struts (that I assume fit both cars) are the same diameter as OE corolla struts. Being built at the same plant in California, I suspect they share suspensions though. Just something to keep in mind.
In reply to gunner:
I wouldn't doubt it if the Chevy used different struts with different valving, but corollas of that gen are fairly plentiful in the junkyard at this point, worst case scenario.
I do have a set of struts from a Corolla that I can snag from a parts car my dad has, so I should be set.
Koni said they'd fit no problem. The worst case scenario is that I have to use the stock Corolla struts I already have.
