This is not entirely correct. There are quite a few good designs with a more or less flat hood from the profile view, and many hoods that aren't visible from the profile view.

Geez, I wishI had these rendering programs/skills, they give drawings so much life! I have much respect for the people who can use them, for now I'm stuck with a pencil and a ruler.

3D software or any software for that matter, is no more a tool than a pencil and paper, some use them in a beneficial way others use them as a crutch because the can't draw. If you can accurately represent volume and space it doesn't matter what your tool of choice. So anyone using paper and pencil dont get discouraged by software.

Is there anything that states this can not be a collaboration project between two people willing to split the award?

SETHalpine- nice 3D work so far. Clean design, and well-thought out proportions. I'd like to see some continuity between the front bumper "winglets" and the rocker area. But I understand it is a work in progress.

Here are a few progress shots. The windshield is a rough estimate of a WRX carryover, and looks a bit akward due to its size. A pillars will be included once I find an appropriate donor.

^That Carve is a seriously cool design. I would say the most original one we've seen so far. Not to say that everyone else is copying, but this is the first one I've seen where I can't say "that looks like a (Insert name brand car here)" Nice work!

... just a little roof - could be - do lower (where you have too much free space that ; doing worse - aerodynamic characteristics of the car, as well as the car itself looks oddly - for an old man :) But in general - all conveniently; the driver can see well - the road and in the cabin is spacious .. But here again ; - (?!) whether you need a space in the cab in - sports car ?! * -should reduce the level of the roof! and add a little "body" - the body - in the rear of the car (where the rear trunk ) - to rear of the vehicle (on boot) There is little eddies of air that slows the car at the time of its motion .. And as the car will become more dynamic body shape (rapid appearance !) - and now you have it looks like a car 1980 -90 (Mazda МХ-3- for example ) ... ! - No offense - ! "YOU LIGHT HAND! - THIS IS expensive! Go on and good luck to you !

Hahah, the language difference makes your posts mysterious and poetic, like deciphering the encrypted communication of an enemy. I love it.

Also, I really do appreciate the feedback - and I'll address what I can here:

The roofline: This image is actually not entirely accurate, as the man inside has been squished down about 4" during an awful photoshop accident (me making the roof shorter with the transform tool, and he was in the layers - so sad, he was so young) - so it's not as tall as it looks. I'll post again with a new man to fill his spot. A tall man needs to comfortably fit in this car, then have room for his helmet. This makes for some goofy proportions.

I know it's fun to squirt around the room in flights of masturbatory aesthetic fancy, and squeeze off long, convoluted platitudes (like this one) about the gestalt, the holy yin-yang union, the event horizon of this that is AUTOMOTIVE DESIGN - but in the end, this thing needs to be built by real dudes for real-world encounters with fun and cones. If the cabin needs to be a bit taller so Chewbacca can autocross it, so be it. Gotta put a fuel door through your "supersonic line"? Deal with it, Gandini. If your Hofmeister Kink and a suspension component both have a ticket for the same seat, the suspension component is going to be the the one sitting.

In regards to the rear, although I have shown literally no indication that the car is like an MR2 or Lancia Montecarlo - it is (in my brain) - So, maybe I should so I stop getting so many mentions about where I am going to find a "hatch" that fits the rear.

Looks purposeful and potentially functional to me. Too few designs these days appeal to my armchair engineer.

Hahah, wait a sec KA - your critique is that I didn't give it enough suspension travel? That's not up for me to decide, and it will no doubt be variable. Concepts are always drawn low, blueprints are the ones that account for ride height. I finally dusted off Maya, so I'll build a model and all these questions will be answered, then a whole new crop of questions will arise. Just gotta remember how to build in NURBS. I'm a professional videogame artist, so I only work in polys, and the polys ain't so good for this high-fallutin' design business.

I actually so far prefer the the more simple designs of the amateurs. The high tech beautiful renderings seem too busy with complicated lines that will eventually go out of style. This is a very generalized statement and I'm enjoying all of the designs.

In reply to Hasbro:

I've always been in the business of designing robots and fantasy military vehicles for games and stuff, but I always though real-life automotive design was interesting. When I get drunk, I go into huge diatribes about how fantastic the design is on my '71 510 - boring all the men near, and straight up repelling the women. Then I'll start talking about the history Bertone or Pininfarina as if I were telling an epic saga. I'll do this until nobody is standing near me. It doesn't take long.

It's incredible how HARD it is to design a car that isn't too outlandish, derivative, hyper-masculine, C-list Matchbox car, or just completely crappy. I sat down all cocky, then burned through about 90 sketches before coming to my current design - and even that one has some serious, serious flaws. All that cockyness evaporated right the hell out my ears.

Much respect to the pros in this thread. But maybe there is some light shining through the cracks of our naive and hamfisted designs? I'd like to think so. Or at least my Ego would.

I also made additions as far as body panels and race gear. The idea is the carbon fiber panels could be replaced by non-carbon fiber (cheaper) panels, but regardless they would keep it light. It's modular, so there are a bunch of ways you could customize. In an attempt to avoid posting all the variations I made, let me know what you guys want to see.

I also made;

  • a removable hardtop window combination
  • black wheels, door graphic and wing.
  • a panel that fits in the open space next to the driver to close in the cockpit

The 3D render need sometimes of a scale. The girl is there, to give you a reference of the size of a car. In 3D, often the car looks bigger than in real. so it's a useful, I'm using some ingame render too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYpV843XYCo
