EXCELLENT rear view. That's a great looking car.

Thanks, I've picked up some more materials and will have some cleaner sketches on the way. And on another note. I will be attending Acedemy of Art University in San Frsncisco in June. Maybe I'll see some of you there!

Here is another design I am working on. What do you guys think of it?

In reply to Unclebigbad, Cool and clever shape, you put the driver in the right position and you worked the body very well so that the wheels do not look too small

In reply to arif: I REALLY like this one. Especialy the way you've used the Bocra front end just updated it. Great job. I doodled with that front end and couldnt ever get it to work nearly as well as you did. Only thing that gets me is the area where the lower body cut line, the rear wheel arch and the side scoop are all concentrated, makes for a very akward surface. Other than that VERY nice

In reply to Birbilis: Thanks for the feed back! I like this shape and wanted to know if it was worth persuing. I am really liking this competition, Its given me a chance to draw and get feedback from people who aren't family. I know my drawing skills are amaturish at best, but I think my ideas are solid and born from actually being a fabricator. Any and all feedback or sugestions is/are welcome and apriciated.

I have to admit that seeing so many talented artists has really got me going, I'm noticing drawing tecniques I'd never thought of, or wondered how to pull off. You'll see the results of what I've learned by the time this thing ends. I'm excited about where this can lead.

It would really help to use the Quote button so we know what you're talking about.

Are you taking their summer program? How long does it go?

I'm going for a BFA in Industrial Design and can be done in 37 months.

Since you were starting in June, I assumed you were doing the five or six week summer car design program. If you are taking on the whole BFA-ID thing, I am seriously impressed! That is very cool and good luck to you! (I may send you a PM, if I can figure out how to do that...)

similar to you, i love to reverse-engineer (reverse-dissect maybe?) artwork and see how i could have achieved the same things. that's the best way for me to learn, and i think it forces you to think through your creative process!

in my experimentation i would absolutely recommend picking up Adobe creative suite if you haven't yet - if at all possible buy it reasonably at the student rate otherwise it's $$$$ (you will need enrollment info to get that rate but i thought i'd mention it with you going for your ID degree) and get yourself a Wacom pad. of course you will also want to be sure your PC can handle it.

i was traditionally a pen/ink guy for years. i have struggled - still do, kinda - to integrate my skills into computers and these 2 pieces of equipment have become part of my "must have" toolset. these days i don't know how i got along without 'em

Thanks for that Scotty B, just by mentioning those tools you've probably helped out aloy of people on this thread! Iknew this was going to be an expensive venture so I'm prepared (to purchase every tool I need @ student rates that is). My family's behind me and I'm extremly motivated, this is all part of a bigger plan. I just wish I would have figured out what I really wanted to do when I was 18!

@Tanas: a lot of interesting sketches, but but you should limit yourself and you focus on 2 or 3 do a poll with all your sketches and see, what people prefer

for me, side of the red with the front of this one (below)

For me: a short video peview of the global shape http://youtu.be/yba_YtLFkjY?hd=1

Sadly, the FF project's template is too high, and the rear overhang due to the tranny, doesn't fit...i 've to modify the rear a lot..with a short wheelbase, except if you want to draw 911/A110 or a car with a.big trunk or a long aerodynamic tail like the actual production of FF.

Lowering the seats may be reasonable, although there would some extra cost for the tank. On the other hand, the transmission is not going to change so you all will have to deal with it. If you configure it with some curvature in plan view, you can disguise it easily. Just look at real cars on the road, most of which have much more rear overhang than is apparent.

I will gladly pay a few extra hundred dollars to get fuel cell installed if it means I wont look like a giraffe driving a miata down the road.

Hey, finally it seems that we are gathering our best designs in to 2 different proposals. Tomorrow we will probably post the almost finished ones. Here is a preview of the first one by Konstantinos. The other one will probably be my version that took mostly positive reviews from you. We will be back soon ;)

Should we do a "People's choice" category as well. I feel that with only 1 car/week we won't have that many choices to choose from for the final car.

Maybe we should be able to see the "Top 3" cars of every week. What do you guys think?

Side note:

I'm okay with the long transmission, if it means that I can have a trunk back there, in similar fashion to the Pontiac Fiero rear deep trunk. (it may just be split into two sections because of the transmission tunnel.)

How come we haven't seen any interior design sketches yet? Will the interior be ignored? Or is it just less glamorous than a car exterior.

^^^ because on a budget of $15K there wont be much of an interior...

A body can be made for relatively a cheap cost regardless of the contours(to an extent) it really comes down to how much time is spent developing the surfaces in a given software package that will determine the cost, and this cost will just have to be taken into consideration as part of the R&D phase.

interesting point So a large single piece with cut outs would probably be best?
