Dude, perhaps you didn't notice. This guy ran sub seven second quarter miles. You require more to be impressed?
I'm impressed, just not as much as you. Those cars would be different, and in my opinion more impressive, if they had to compete in the real world.
The math of being that quick in the 1/4 mile is pretty amazing. The rule of thumb that I learned says-
10 horsepower = 100 lbs. = .10 seconds in the quarter mile
This car completely destroys that rule of thumb. Like...Godzilla destruction.
A 200 mph trap speed also blows my mind. That's got to be the ragged edge (if not already beyond) of safe in a car with doors, lights, glass windows, turn signals, etc...

Just because they take a corner at 30 instead of 130? If they turn the tire on a public road, they are in the real world. Please step out of your pessimistic fantasy world.

I'd prefer to see 'em run under street like conditions if they want to present it as a street car competition...random un-prep'd asphalt and street worthy tires would be a good place to start.

I for one, yes. Run it on DOT street tires, pull into a mom and pop gas station and run the gas that actually comes out of those pumps, and do the quarter mile runs on an airport runway. Not a prepped strip. Oh, and almost any body--looking like a street car--can be made to run sub seven second quater miles. All it takes is lots of $$$.
. It's a Street CAR competition. Once the competition starts, with the exception of simply adjusting the rockers, carbs/injectors, and adding oil, seal the engine. Right now it's a hollow title.
I would have liked to seen the engine tear down after the competition

When I bought my SE-R back in 1992, the published 0-60 time was 7.4 seconds--if I remember correctly. At the time, that was seen as pretty quick. How times do change.
Street car or no, that's damn fast and cool video to watch. No sense in arguing over it!
And, did I read correctly that the flame shooting down just behind the front wheels emanates from the wastegates??? Damn!!!

Then berkeleying ELABORATE. I can only go by what you say and what kind of content a website has and mostly it is more then straight line action here.
As for the other comment on what a "street" car is, in their eyes. Please find an airport landing strip that is available to do these hooligan actions on. I am sure someone will put their money where they really need to put their brain into action. I prefer to be SAFE at a drag strip with 3000hp then risk losing everything because some idiot thinks because I am doing the racing at an approved venue and not at their venue.

So am I out if I torch a piston from a "bad" 600hp fogger tune? Blow a HG from an overboost condition caused by a bad wastegate?
Gimme a F-in break. Until you are at the edge, it is easy to lob stupid rules on something.
Yup, you're out. Been to the edge and know what it's like.
I can understand where you're coming from--I was there when C&D "built" their 200mph street Trans-Am. Lots went on--7 engines--the public didn't know about.
My point is, if you want to do as you say, then make it the fastest strip/street car. That's more realistic, and a very easy change.
Ancillary parts can screw up/ fail. That's why you test and tune, and get it as reliable as you can. Take what you have built and run that.
Another way to run the competition is to have the drag strip competition at the beginning of the competition, and at the end of the runs, seal the engines. Then run the long distance and see what lasts.
Up until the modern era you could not add a drop of oil to an engine at the 24hours of LeMans, or you were disqualified. This includes the Porche 917 era. Lots of power, and they had to last, so it IS possible. It's called R&D and engineering.
I find the current label to be stupid, misleading and insulting.
In reply to Ranger50:
A landing strip where these actions can take place safely? Texas, where they run a measured mile, and I believe there's one in the Carolinas where the same is done multiple times a year. And 200mph is broken by the strong running cars.

There's already a ton of drag classes for cars like that. Call 'em street cars if you like, but it's just more of the same.
Put a street tire on them and run a green track...that 600hp fogger won't mean much anymore.

It's called anti-lag. Severely retarded timing to build boost on the line. More fuel burning in the manifold than in the engine.
Seems heated in here, For those of you that think these cars should be run on street tires, Drag slicks are a "must have" item, All your time is how good you launch. Without them all these cars would be worthless. Whats the fun in spinning your tires and going nowhere fast?

I've never seen this much hate on this forum before. Oh well, get out if you don't care. Instead of having an (awesome) budget cap, and having to run an autocross, they have to drive 1,000 street miles. The rules are the same for the challenge as far as what gas and tires you can bring. If you really are going to hate on that - go ahead.

I love that idea. Watch one of the Pro Mod episodes (NHRA) one guy on there is running a turbo. He stinks off of the line but he has 10 mph on the field. His car pops and farts at the starting line because of that. It's really a cool idea.

It's not that those cars should be run on street tires...it's that a "street car" should run on street tires.
Doing something awesome on a budget is better than some big $$$ race budget, it shows true passion and ingenuity
It's my hope I didn't add to the hate. I came in a bit late, and hopefully didn't offend anyone, esp Rager50, whose
knowledge and ability to impart that knowledge I highly respect. Guy really knows his stuff.
I've seen threads get much more heated when one mentions acts by a certain sanctioning body's races, cars and fans.
I don't know about all the anger in here, but I for one would love to sit in that passenger seat for a run!
A few years ago I saw something about an Aussie drag vette that was 4wd because the strips suck so bad. I wonder if it would become more common in the US if strip prep and tires were more restricted.
I vote for something awesome in motor sports. Oddly enough, I also now truly understand the comment "Haters gonna hate".

You started this thread, daring people to build a 13 second turbobrick, and now do a la-de-dah-it's not-my--concern post. Fine, YOU step up, buy a set of Carillo Rods, Mahle pistons, etc...and finish a car.
There are those who have gone down that route, and
have put up not shut up. And that's the nerve you've touched.
