I think you are spot on with this one. I looked in the Wiki and there is no mention of a convertible 250 GTO
Are there more pictures than the two in the article? It's pretty hard to tell it's a convertible from those. But the carbs do kinda tell the story.

You can plainly see the strut towers in the picture. And the drivers fender is gone, probably fiberglass that was consumed in the fire. Most likely an S30 Datsun chassis.

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say. The owner is going to be greatly disappointed when the adjuster arrives with the bad news.
