Seen this on Twitter. Wasn't sure how many eyes have seen it.
I see Lewis went back to the original spec front wing. Legality issue with the updated spec they brought to Austin or it's just not fast?
Oh, and a grid spot brake job. Don't see that often.
A nice "get to know your new teammate" moment there. Need to see what happened- Stroll is ok , but what a mess.
The replay shows that was 100% Stroll's fault- he turned into Alonso as Fernando was going to pass. That's petty bad.
Carlos kinda got in the wrong spot there, with Max balking him a bit. Hindsight, I bet he'd stay right, behind Max. George deserves part of the blame, but watching the in car, it's not all his to absorb.
Didn't expect the Mercedes tires to go off a cliff like that. Max was almost able to get a 5 second gap just to make sure he can cover a late penalty.

The goal of these new rules are to get rid of it. But it should be shorted a lot at some tracks.
Still, for that ending, Max was closing a huge amount each straight- he probably didn't need it. That care sure has some special money in it, eh?

I'd imagine Lewis was pushing absolutely at the limit for that entire stint. He would have known Max was faster, by a reasonable margin.
Nice day from Seb. Shame about the impact wrench.
I'm a bit surprised Fernandos car survived his little flight.

Yea, but Max pushing hard didn't do much to his medium tires. If there's a clear indicator of speed difference- that was it.
I have to say I would like to see Lewis get his elbows out since there is not a lot on the line. If Max believes he can pass without risk he is going to pass. If Lewis stuffs the front of the Merc into the side of that RB a couple times when it doesn’t matter Max may think about it when it does.

Waaaaaaaa!!!!sniff sniff Y'all are killin' me smallz BWaHahaaaaaa!!!!

Lol.
I am not saying he has to drive straight into him but by gosh he seems passive about letting him pass him sometimes. As hard as Alonso and Perez make it for him to pass them it seems like he could fight a little harder. Maybe not, but that looked easy, like blocking for a screen pass.

Except for Flying Fernando. He don't give a berkeley! Age, nah, car flying, it's rolling still let's race. That guy has defied aging apparently.
Good race, maybe great race.
I think Sainz tried some over under mess and forgot it was turn 1 after the start. Of course 2 or 3 cars will be diving through the apex stay wide and clear of that mess mr polesitter. Duh.
The stewards must like the idea of redbull front wing end plates flying into the corner workers faces must feel better hitting them, some Adrian Newey special massage feature versus a HAAS end plate or something........
I often poo poo Vettel but he raced hard today!
About 3 laps after Max passed Leclerc I started to wonder if Lewis just didn't have any new Mediums left. The track evolved toward a MHM strategy. Heck probably was a SMM day if you had the new tires for it. Then again the safety cars maybe helped that along. Once there were 10 laps left it was obvious that Lewis wouldn't get the win unless the Mediums fell off a cliff which hasn't really happened much this year. Even Magnessen had some tire left to battle at the end.
Stroll made a bad move. Norris was on fire for a few laps.
It's a bit disappointing that the racing series with the best cornering cars in the world gets decided every week by who has the highest straight line speed. It makes sense, but it's also not satisfying to watch a car without DRS just walk away from cars with DRS lap after lap
Yes, Vettel deserved driver of the day but K-Mag should get an honorable mention for 30+ laps on a set of mediums.
Alpine has a tank of a car, engine notwithstanding. Except for mirror construction.
I think Haas was right to file protests over the Perez endplate (which did fly off at speed, unlike any of Kevin's this year) and Alonso's mirror. BUT, if you penalize Alonso, I think you need to give Perez a penalty too.
Pretty good race, overall.
