They have weather incoming, looks like Quali is done. Verstappen on pole, Leclerc 2nd. They just red flagged the session with 4:19 to go, race control says the session is done. Astons in 3rd (Stroll) and 4th (Alonso), Hamilton and Russell lock out the 3rd row. McLaren was caught out by the weather, a gust of wind literally spun Piastri off track.
In reply to 06HHR (Forum Supporter) :
Seems that all were effected by the weather, given the speeds on fresh tires. And have to be critical of Mercedes for not telling their drivers to alter the warm up lap to make sure they minimized the weather effect. Max called that pretty well to pass both of them. Unlike his teammate, who did get caught up in Piastri's off, but given the progression of times, they would have been the last two no matter what.
Weird quali. Fun stuff. Tomorrow should be entertaining.
Lol, seems like all the drivers in Q3 claim to have had the speed for Pole, 8 of them are wrong

Sprint race coming up. Sprint qualifying back to more typical field. Norris getting at it. Thoughts on Q1 incident...Ocon lose it on his own or Fred pinch him a bit mid corner?
In reply to johndej :
Looked to me like he just lost it. If Chad wasn't there he would have saved it but if he hadn't let it out from under him a bit they would have been fine.
Didn't expect the Mercedes to drop off that far. They are going to have a really bad day tomorrow, potentially.
Too bad Lando could not get Max into the first corner, but seeing the McLaren drop off, he may not have been able to hold him off anyway.
Some fun passing in the field for the sprint.

Yeah would have liked anyone to pressure Max. Fun race with lots of passing in the DRS trains.
Ok, here's my idea for the race weekend: Friday-FP1 and FP2. Saturday morning-Sprint Race with reverse grid based on WDC points, Saturday afternoon-Qualifying to set position for Sunday Race. This solves the parc ferme rules, gives teams good data for set up for Quali and Race and would be really exciting because everyone is starting behind someone who is (on average) slower than they are. Award enough points for Sprint Race that teams and drivers will really go for the passes
In reply to loosecannon :
Teams will never go for a reverse grid,2 full practices before quali for the sprint race and let the sprint set sundays race grid.
Give full points for both races, teams and drivers will run hard in the sprint as the points potencial will justify it.
Still have sat night etc to repair car issues/crash damages same as every weekend.

The best car will almost certainly win tomorrow......
Go Carlos!
Brazil really packs in the fans. Currently watching driver intro laps. The whole place is packed! The Brazilians are so passionate about F1 and they love Hamilton. Incredible buildup for that race. If it wasn't so dangerous to travel there that would be an awesome race to attend!
That was certainly an eventful couple of laps. Geez.
The start was incredible for Norris and really good for Hamilton, horrific for both AML cars. Alonso had a clear shot to be 2nd, and is now 4th.
OK, WRT classification- why is Albon 20th and LeClerc 19th? Charles didn't even take the green flag, whereas Alex crossed the start-finish to take the green.
Will standing start 2 be as eventful?
Danny Rics rear wing was out there shagging fly balls. Bad luck there.
Well, Mercedes is confirming in a longer race how bad their set up is. Just like yesterday. They wil be lucky to get any points at all today.
1 and 2 were pretty boring, but what a race for 3rd. Alonso did an amazing job keeping Checo behind him, and then staying close to bother him enough going into turn one to repass on the last lap. Wow.
Fernando Alonso is the Ryan Newman of F1.
The Parc ferme rules on a sprint weekend are stupid. "We missed the setup on Friday morning. Might as well go home, guys."
Once again, ignoring Max, that was a fun race to watch.
"Bonjour, they call me Lucky Leclerc."

Besides that, it also pretty clearly shows that Mercedes simulation does not match the car very well, still. They should have been a lot closer than that in terms of set up- all the other teams did better. They were pretty much Haas- where they had good one lap pace, but race pace was horrible. And it's hard to tell if they got one part or the whole thing wrong- they were clearly under cooled. But at the same time, seeing them wander all over the track, they were super hard on the tires. Let alone really slow on the straights. For a car that was clearly much closer in the last two races- what in the world was that?
Checo on commenting that other drivers could learn from his and Alonsos scrap, umm how many cars have you clumsily thumped over the last 3'ish months alone there Checo?.
Yet another race with the max tire saving to hit a target,I would like to see a driver/team(cough McLaren cough)just bolt tires on and use them at 100% and repeat and force RB to run hard too.
Max's voice at the checker sounded like he watched it from the couch.....
In reply to kevlarcorolla :
It also seems that the teams set up the car knowing that it will be a tire management race, making the risk of overheating anything much higher. Which makes it even more frustrating to watch.
In reply to alfadriver :
Yes pretty frustrating to watch, open up the damn vents and have it.
Losing 1 mph for 3% of the lap due to the added drag has still got to be faster if allowed to push for the other 97% of the lap.
I mean you brought like 25 people just to change tires so put them to work too for christs sake :)
In reply to kevlarcorolla :
On your last note- if you are going to be behind by more than 27 seconds w/o pitting, you may as well plan a pit stop. More fun to see a team be aggressive and pit an extra time, pushing hard the whole time.
