Older 6V vehicle now with a newer engine and 12V system. Using a 12V gas gauge, can you still use the 6V sender in the tank?
I assume it's some kind of rheostat in the tank, would the gauge readings now be off by double, by half or stay the same?
Thanks.
Does the gauge have a voltage stablizer/reducer already? If it's reducing the voltage below 6v you'll need to factor that in.
Otherwise, a voltage reducer above the gauge will do the job. You can use a simple potentiometer, but a stabilizer will do a better job.
Gas gauge is pretty low current, a little 3 pin 7806 voltage regulator chip will solve your problems.
