with the threads about electric cars...i was wondering when i am in the retirement home drooling in a wheelchair (not that far off) will a forum like this exist with the guys talking about the electric motors they are swapping or the mixing motor controls in their electric cars....will they be called electron heads instead of gearheads......i think it will get really interesting as a friend just said to me " i like to go fast down a twisty road and i dont care if its in a car with a combustion engine or a electric motor i just want to go fast"

The future is now! (history repeats itself?) I drool pretty often, but I'm not in a wheelchair yet...

Electric cars still have gears, you know.

Plus, a little while back, we did that piece on the electric Miata.

In reply to Nashco:

I am talking about cars that started their lives as electric cars. They would look at yours like it was a ford with a chevy small block in it in other words a bastard. I did read all 16 pages of your thread awesome build

I'm pretty certain at some point down the line I'll be working on an electric car project... it seems they're only going to get more abundant, and when the original ones (read: those out now) start showing up in salvage yards it'll get a lot easier for us to start having fun with the parts from them...

It's not far off at all, the batteries put the intial prices of even collecting the parts for an electric car clean into the 5 digits right now, but probably about 10 years from now the costs will be low enough for "grassroots" pure EVs that are also practical daily drivers.

I'm already thinking about an electric car for a commuting appliance. Mods would be an obvious next step.

I want to do an electric Pacer. I don't know why, but I do.

Because then you could have the solar panels INSIDE!
