I'll get out there one day but it won't be this year... Y'all have fun!

And I'm now officially registered--plus my flight and hotel are booked. I guess that's as good as it gets.

JG and I will driving our VW New Beetle in Road Tire FWD.

This should be fun.

I'm still hunting for a place to crash. I'm travelling solo and too cheap to get a hotel room just for some beauty sleep. Any local GRMers have a couch I can crash on? Other racers interested in splitting a room?

I'm looking forward to my first nationals event, even if it is just for a few days of spectating!

I need to make it there some time soon.

Shoot I have a couch and a huge barn at my disposal just 8 miles from the airport at my sister's house. Just haven't had the time or the extra money to build up something.

I'll be there, #127 CSP. Really no excuse not to be. I live 45 mins away.

If you see the white CSP Miata with a spark plug on the fenders, I am the shorter, fatter guy. Come say hi! We might even have beer....

Did someone say "beer"?

Might is an understatement. Good luck!

Anybody have some recommendations for stuff to do in the area if I'm just spectating? Awesome food places? Car stuff like parts stores or museums or whatever? Famous landmark?

Also, anybody done camping at the event? I'm debating bringing a tent and air mattress and camping at the track...$50 for my entire stay sounds like a perfect price, since I can't find a friendly couch or somebody who wants to split a hotel room. That is, assuming they've got room for a guy who didn't pre-register for a spot (details, details...).

Thanks for any suggestions!

Plenty of great restaurants downtown too. Laazlos, there's a Cajun type place, local iga has a decent deli.

Lucky's is a bbq place in the Ramada near the airport. It's pretty decent. I'm sure we will go again. I'd offer space in our motel, but we already have 10 guys in two rooms There's a body shop on cornhusker highway about ten minutes from the airport on the right. There's a bunch of old cars out front in rough shape. Stop in and have a look. The owner gave us a tour he's a really interesting guy who does some amazing work. I forget his name and the name of the body shop, but it's worth a stop if you find it. If you want to drink beer with real Canadians, stop by our paddock in row 4 almost any time.

He's done some interesting work over the years, but he's also pretty damn full of himself. One of those Legend in his own Mind kind of people.

He was much better in the 90's when he was actually doing a lot of cool stuff like the partnership with Paul Brown on the SWB MN12. I remember the 427 Cammer Galaxie he had in the showroom for a bit too. His wife's chopped widebody fox body was definitely interesting.

Bought some takeoff parts from him a few times for my old mustang. Mostly body panels.

Speedway motors is 10X cooler though. Eagle Raceway is some really good dirt track racing on the high banked oval. It's gotten overshadowed a little bit by I-80 raceway out in greenwood but winged sprinters are a blast to watch there.

Damn, this place is huge. Walked the courses this morning and started weaving through pits to check out cars. Think I've seen HALF of the lot in 4 hours, and many competitors aren't even here yet.

That's also a lot of folk traveling to BFE to race for a few minutes! hopefully the weather holds out for everybody, it's not perfect but it's certainly dry!

If anybody sees a lone ginger walking around, say hey.

You don't have to just spectate you know. In row 8 near the fence there's a lonely Kia with a single driver.

Then the Kia could be driven x2 by gingers.

Yep, JG and I have been busy talking to people, checking out cars, etc. We got to walk the course twice. Hopefully we get one more walk-through tomorrow. We work first heat and then run later in the day.
