I never knew of them until seeing the ad on the right side of the screen. So I clicked on the web site and took a glance at options, builds, etc. I'm intrigued because it's mid-engine.

Has anyone here built one yet?

Wasn't the first one part of a significant build thread here?

yes, yes it was. (but you've already posted the links)

It looked awesome then and still looks awesome now.

Something like this with a 1.4t Cruze engine would be interesting.

Guy in the ETR SCCA rallycross group has the all terrain version he is modifying for constructors class iirc.

I almost want my Buick to get rear ended so I could do this.

Leave it in neutral on a hill and let it roll down into a tree?

There's one that runs at the local autocross and it's FTD every time. Sounds and looks unreal.

Aesthetically it doesn't move me, but that's merely taste. They appear very well engineered and built. I like the relatively abundant side impact protection as well.

Goozquad on YouTube built one. It looked like it went together pretty easily.

So it's basically a kit car Atom?

If you're going to build a Goblin...

That was my thought.

Although I know nothing of the general reliability of the Cobalt SS drivetrain. So that's an unknown.

It'd be nice to see a kit like this built around the venerable FWD, Honda K2x engines.

Isn't the Cobalt SS basically the same engine that was used in the Brammo Atoms?

Also, that is a considerably stouter frame than is found in the Atom.

Its just metal.  Modify it to use your drivetrain of choice.

That's basically the premise behind the Midlana.

STOP YELLING AND WAVING YOUR ARMS!

Why did they go with the 5x110 setup?

The various Ecotecs are pretty robust and the SS variants make good power per $ at the entry level.  The nice thing about the K series is you are buying into a world where parts exist to do whatever you could dream of with the engine.

If I could do quality design and fab work, I probably wouldn't need to start with a kit. But alas, I can't do either, nor do I have the inclination to buy the tools and take the time to learn. smiley

Find a local race shop that does chassis work and have them modify the Goblin chassis for you.  Done.

Ok, but that's silly.

He wants something that works out of the box and that is a perfectly reasonable position.

My question is, how does this compare to the Exocet?  The exocet is mostly Miata components aside from the chassis, so everything that can be modded has been modded, and everything that can be fixed has been fixed.  Every part that can be stress tested has been.

Is there any advantage to the Goblin other that the lower buy in for hp?  Is classing for it different anywhere?

Exactly. Who knows because of engine size and transmission if that would require changing the wheelbase so the engine can fit, and on and on.

The only real advantage I see is front:rear weight ratio since it's mid-engine.

Which is kind of a shame.  It appears to be a very well designed kit, and I think success of a kit based on a really commonly available car would be great.
