The answer here 4x4, can tow fst, get over 20mpg is an used eco-diesel grand cherokee. No, it's not fun or fast but it seems to make sense and knocks out a bunch of things at once. Which leave's room for toys.

Green Diesel Engineering and a few others also have some tunes that can help make them get better MPG and be more reliable (does stuff with the EGR and regen)
However I don't know what Nevada's smog laws are like
$27-30k with 30k-ish miles , 100k mile warrenty.
I know nothing about a lawsuit I don't have cable lol.
That's $7k-$10k over budget even after I sell the RX8 track car. So in that sense it doesn't leave room for toys...
Smog laws here aren't the issue, there is no emissions testing in Nevada outside Reno and Las Vegas.

FCA is being sued by the US Government
Over undisclosed emissions control bypasses in their software. I also read recently that there was a class action lawsuit from customers as well, but can't seem to find that article. As such, you can't currently buy a new EcoDiesel equipped vehicle and some are speculating that FCA could experience penalties a la VW, but they'd likely be less severe as it sounds like a software issue and affects far fewer vehicles. Still, it wouldn't surprise me to hear of a recall for software updates in the future.

Keeping an eye on that one .
I'm also drooling over this one, but it's also a tad too far away: Saab Viggen on BaT

Damn that's crazy. Hope ford v6 diesel does well without trickery.

That is near me- I can look at it in person and maybe even assist with a fly and drive or relay to get it to you!

I'm SO confused why an X-drive, stickshift 335 hasn't been mentioned. Add a chip, 400+ HP. Dead silent, classy enough for clients.
Because its numb and boring. Ever wear a condom? Once you've driven an M car, driving a non-M is a lot like that.
I think a Taurus SHO is going to be significantly more numb and boring. I'd shop hard for an Evo in your shoes if you fit, if BMW is really off the table. Used VW/Audi doesn't seem like a great idea especially depending on it to cross mountains. Evo IX is on my bucket list, I just don't need a track car and would feel bad about driving one through snow and salt.
Why the hesitation selling the RX8? You have a race car now. Track that!

Can't take an open wheeler to a regular track day...
In reply to turtl631:
They don't really use salt here on the roads, that makes using something special possible even in Winter.
Well I guess you have to decide if you want more of a tin can or a cruiser.
In reply to docwyte:
That's interesting - I didn't even know NASA did open wheelers at all. Might have to look into that.

Thats always been my issue with looking at a true race car
1) availability of track days
2) lack of seat for instructor/passenger

Because I already ruled out BMW IXen and Subarus in the first post? .
Not a big fan of either of them.
You said E46. I said E90 :)
In reply to Jaynen:
I've seen a lot of people take cars with enclosed bodywork to track days, but usually the organisers draw the line at Formula cars.
In my case it would be nice to have a trackable street car that allows me to attend a trackday at short notice if I find a hole in my calendar. I guess that'll be the RX8 for now.
In reply to Blaise:
Newer isn't necessarily better in my book . I don't think I've seen one in the $15k budget that looked like it was worth having.

Yeah, this sort of thing is hugely subjective. BUT, it does check all of your boxes and you can even find them up to '09 I think without the stupid idrive stuff. So you can have a nice clean dash. $15k would fetch a nice example.
IMHO the problem with E90s is that they're just too heavy to be a decent track car.
My friend is selling his very clean evo 8 soon. It'll be 16-18k. Let me know if you're interested.

I vote R53, but I just bought one, so I'm biased.
As much as I like the V70R, I would not touch an automatic Volvo with a 20' pole. BTDT. Never again.
