So what's the scoop on Hennessey? Periodically he does something impressive, but I've also heard that he's yet another snake-oil salesman getting rich off of middle-aged Corvette owners.

iirc he does a lot of impressive work, but has had some shady business practices in the past.

the facility they used is three long miles of crazy flat concrete. It looks they used all of it to get up to speed and back down again. The run show was running north to south. Been there for a few tests and we get some pretty good speeds in the 'support' rentals...

That's what blew me away. At 150 it was still pulling massive Gs. Amazing!!

They said it was still pulling at 270 but they had hit their braking marker. Their media guy (who I'm sure did the filming as I can see him in the group picture from the event) comes to our rallycrosses at Hennessey. I should have let him co drive when he asked me last week. I could have gotten the scoop.

Tires shouldn't be that big of a deal. They go faster than that on the salt all the time. They could just slap on a set of Veyron tires and call it a day for that matter.

Well, to be honest both Hennessey companies have less than stellar reputations, so I'll give it a hardy, "meh."

Veyron tires would be Michelins costing how much, and available to civilians? I'd just be interested in knowing what they actually did. If I were going to drive 270 on any surface, tires would be a pretty big deal. I would have thought that speed required something special on salt, or concrete. I realize I may be wrong. Maybe a set of Direezas is fine. I'm just curious.

Tires were Michelin, you could see it in the video. I just checked and it was my friend who made the video so I'll ask him at the rallycross on Saturday.

The current record at the Texas Mile is 278 for a very modified Ford GT. 300 should certainly happen,

I've heard the same shady stories as you guys have about his business practices and wouldn't send any car I ever own to his shop but damn that is impressive and deserves recognition.

The world is a better place when people build things like this. The video was super well produced as well.
