Hi all,

My wife will be out with my daughter in the CR-V tomorrow so I was going to take my 5 year old son with me tomorrow in my 1990 Miata (no airbags). I tried putting his car seat in the car but the seat belt doesn't seem to anchor the child seat very securely and there is no spot to attach the tether.

The child seat can be used as a booster seat, where the seat belt would get used normally across my son's chest (as opposed to having using the belt to secure the child seat by itself). He is 5 pounds shy of the seat being used in this way though, according to the seat manufacturer.

Do any of you have any experience using a child seat in an NA Miata?

Thanks, Mark

I suppose it's probably too late for this advice, but if you can, pick up a "belt-positioning" booster seat. Basically a regular booster with a thin back that keeps the shoulder belt from cutting across his neck. Like this:

I've got two kids--6 and 3. Seats like this are fine for 30lbs and up--my 3 year old girl is about 30lbs. I've taken my girls (one at a time, of course) in my '91 Smurf with seats like that.
