Finally got time to watch all the vids. Love 'em.
A note on production, the spots where you're just turning a wrench and not talking, maybe speed those up so they zip by faster? They kill the momentum a lot.
Thanks! That is exactly the feedback I need, Making videos is quite the learning process.

Hey they have a way to adapter old smog pumps as super chargers to these engines. Look up "smog pump supercharger predator". Only a few psi, but worth it on that small of an engine.
Thanks for the heads up!, I'm on it

I would imagine that a few pounds above atmosphere pressure is all you'd want. I can't imagine that the connecting rod is that robust.
Might want to check the ring gap if you boost it.
Stay tuned, because down the road the engine is getting a billet rod and a lot of other mods.
I watched all the videos last night. Pretty cool stuff.
So since I have a two seater go kart sitting in the yard and I'm planning on doing a 212 predator engine, where did you go for the stage 1 parts and such?

"Billet rod" - bought a chunk of steel from Home Depot and drilled journals at it?

OMG, this is awesome. Please continue!
Props, these are fun videos. I didn’t think you’d break 30 mph, so you’re already off to a great start. Those Predator 212s punch above their class for sure.

A common thing people do with those seems to be to play whatever their theme song is over whatever is being sped up. If you've got a theme song that won't cause you to get your account locked for copyright infringement

The individual parts for the stage one kit were sourced through Amazon, ebay, OMB warehouse and BMI karts. I shopped around and got the parts cheaper then buying an actual stage one kit.

I have access to royalty free music for YouTube creators, but its hard to find free stuff that actually sounds good.
In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :
LOL, its not hard to take the base $99.00 engine and dump a grand into it. Pretty much every part can be had with some sort of upgrade. The predator 212 is sort of like the small block chevy of kart engines.

I wonder if there are any musicians on here that would be willing.

interstellar sledgehammer perhaps? I hope i didnt mess up that name. They sound awesome!
Just saw this. Cool stuff! I actually have a chassis from a legitimate car made from 78 - 82. Really a tadpole trike. But came from the factory with a 12hp Briggs! Google H-M Free-Way
Predator powered sub class at the challenge would be very interesting.

I like that! Will there be an award for who can bring the SLOWEST one? I think I can win that!

YouTube studio has some decent free/royalty free music you can download. Also I'm shocked you only have 572 subs, production value is far better than a lot of you tubers out there with 10s of thousands of subs. Well done!

until this very moment i did not know i needed this distraction in my life.
14" tires are so cheap you might be able to stretch 5th just by installing slightly taller tires, preferably as narrow as humanly possible (might even be some junkyard 4x100 space savers that hit the diameter and narrowness nail on the head. I dont think the stock space saver is any taller than the tire you're already running although it is absurdly light). And i sure as heck would run every tire at its rated maximum pressure to minimize rolling resistance since speeds are so low and the car is so much lighter than stock anyway. As someone with both an Insight and a 212 predator sitting around this has been a very entertaining build series so far!!

I have either a magnum wagon to put one in, or an Astro van... think I can get one up to 20 mph?

looking at the dyno chart, are you sure peak power is at 4200? could the governor have been starting to come in before it hit the wall, or is it just like a rev limiter?
Very clever and fun project! I watched all 4 videos and am looking forward to more.
I've daydreamed of building a gambler 500 rig using a predator engine. I think if I could keep it light, use a dual range gearbox of some sort. It might be capable of doing some off roading and the occasional road transit (30mph goal?)
In reply to Strizzo :
We ran the engine on the dyno about 10 times without the governor. The RPM's maxed out at 6200 before the valves started floating. Anyway, without the governor it was obvious the engine stopped making power around 4200 rpm. In order not to destroy the engine, we reconnected the governor and adjusted it to to cap the RPM's at around 4500. After the governor was modified, the engine was subjected to a number of additional dyno runs.
On these Predator engines the flywheel can handle about 5000 RPM, but that no guarantee. The likelihood of the connecting rod letting go also increases above 5000 RPM.
The good news is the next time we dyno the engine it will have a billet rod and billet flywheel
The area circled is where the governor limited the RPM.

Plenty of videos are on the way. Im running the 212 Predator specifically for the video series. By the time I get done with all the mods it would have been cheaper to use a 420 Predator. At some point I will go with the 420 and then do the mods on that one. That being said, I'm pretty sure the stock 420 would be acquit for most oddball builds.
