Looks like some kind of old RV or toy hauler. Ladder on the back for access to roof is common on things like that.
The sliding windows and shoddy looking seam on the back made me immediately think that maybe it was once a horsevan. Who knows.
it looks like it was cobbled together from several sources. The front of the "box" seems to have a window for a sign, like it was a mini-bus or the like. I would like to see the passengerside to see what kind of door it has for entrance
I noticed the front sign thing too. I'm thinking originally a bus with the angled roof cutoff & large windows added later?
BTW, regional dialect question: what is a "prepper"?
Yeah, I was thinking it was a bus in its previous life. That rear 'glas section with the ladder is very home made, along with the windows.
Also- prepper=doomsday prepper, the crazies that build bunkers and E36 M3.

That would be my guess as well... since it's from the early 80's I'd also guess the sloped rear roof was an attempt at aerodynamics to improve fuel mileage.
