I just made a deal to pick up a complete 944s less the motor that seems to be in mint condition for $250. And I have a complete 3.0l motor sitting on a stand in my basement. Ohya and I have a M62 supercharger that I have custom fit to the 944 motor and a complete home brew plug and play MS setup for a 944 as well.
I hope this comes together.. .. . . The budget is as follows. I have been scrounging parts for the motor for the last couple years and have less than $500 in to it. The MS cost me $225 and the M62 was less than $100. By the math this leaves me about $900 to play with. Unforchantly I am going to have to spend $$$ on some good brake pads and I am thinking a set of Koni Yellows will make it Handel the autocross course. Then there are lowering springs and sway bars that may need replacing. I am not sure how I can make it hook up for the drag race part of the event. Soften the rear shocks all the way for weight transfer?
This should be fun
if OEM brake pads are adiquite for the challenge you can save some $$$ as that can be replaced no charge :)
but sounds like a fun little car

Ok, now you also need a big PA speaker on the roof blasting "The Messiah" while you're on-course.

One peice at a time. Getting it out is going to be fun. I do not have the head on it in a perminant manor the thinking is that I will take it out and put the head on. But that is going to be a real SOB
My main reason for purchasing this was for parts for my car but after looking at it I really hate to part it. However if I do part it I will be ahead considderng what I paid for it.
I saw a 944 on the road yesterday when I was filling up... poor thing had faded red paint, not a straight panel on the body, rotted out fenders, and an interior mostly made of duct tape.. but the glorious sound
How are you going to value the 3 liter motor? Those only came in 944S2's and market value of them is more than the Challenge limit...

I have a set of front lowering springs (about 220lbs/in I think) I'll give you for the cost of shipping (think large flat rate box). Also check CIP1.com for cheaper 28mm rear torsion bars (super beetle, off-road section) or super beetle rear shocks with HD springs.
Also, this might help with "outside the box" parts searching for suspension upgrades: http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=25272

if he has receipts for what he has done to it to make it a working engine.. I imagine that would be the value..
