Or a kit car body to make it look like a Fiero.

Oh, I'm still hurting. Back, neck, thumb has about 30% usage. Don't think the staples should come out of my scalp yet. It was a crush injury, not a clean cut, so it's taking a while to fill in. Of course, the ER doc didn't do as good a job as I can do, and I would have done it different, but what are you going to do? And isn't everything like that? And I wasn't exactly in a position to sew it up myself. I would have thrown maybe 5 or 6 interrupted 4-0 vicryl stitches in to pull it together, then stapled after that if I was in a hurry or run a 4-0 vicryl running sub-q and bury the knot if I wasn't.

That pretty succinctly answers the question of "what does he do to afford all these nice toys?" Sounds like you're pretty good at what you do.

My dad has stitched up his forehead a couple of times from scope cuts. Both of my parents are veterinarians and my mom refuses to stitch anyone up if they hurt themselves due to stupidity. She said he has to do it himself or go to a real doctor.
He says even though he's been stitching things constantly for 40 years, it's suprisingly difficult to stitch up your own head in the mirror.
Your own results may vary.

Cue the next free/cheap Europa thread.

I'm pretty sure that he has a couple of them nearby.

I once self-assaulted my chin with an 18mm wrench and on a separate occasion, rolled a 4-wheeler, again, took it on the chin, thus ending my modelling career. I can absolutely confirm the above as a true statement regardless of how much you practice. I'm also educated in the Veterinary Arts, but didn't follow through. Not that the degree had anything to do with it - I just enjoy DIY.

I too got in a crackup in a tiny English death box (MG Midget in my case) and so, get well soon, Hess. Congrats on not dying.

I seriously considered attempting it this weekend after a bit of "Heat of Battle" stupidity at the great lakes div rallyx. managed to stab myself in the face w/ a flathead screwdriver. It landed right in the crease of the nose, lucky enough. Eye or up the nose would have REALLY sucked. Since it naturally wanted to stay closed, I decided it was worth not exponentially increasing my chance of infection (and worse scarring) to attempt a stitch or two.

Sorry you're still hurting, Doc, but we're sure glad you're able to be here telling us about it.

At least you didn't stab yourself in the face with a soldering iron.

Still sounds like a bad time, glad it wasn't worse.

Come on you did not just slap a halo bandage on your head with a thin bit of cryo glue on the big gash and head home.

Also get the chassis back and find a way to get a 23B body to fit with a small hacksaw.

True, but I work with lots of doctors and I wouldn't trust a damn one of them to sew me back up. They're all the wrong kind.

His adjuster offered me a rental car. I think it was mighty decent of them, but it would be a Hundai something or other or a tahoe. Woopie. Think I'd rather drive the 86 RN truck than a hundai or a chevy.

Check with the insurance company- Where I am, you don't have to take the rental. You can get reimbursement for "renting" another car that you have access to (your other car, friends car, etc.) You basically get what they would have paid the rental company had they rented you a car.

We've also got a Dr boost and a Dr blade (rip) and I'm not sure either of them are docs. Took me a she to figure out Hess was real.

Last time I "needed" stitches I was running late for a wedding. So I just washed all the glass out of my fingers and held my hand vertically until the blood coagulated.

Related note, I'm a moron.

Did you buy back the total? What did you get to replace it?

I still have some lasting damage in my thumb, neck, etc. It's getting better but is still berkeleyed up. It will probably never be as good as it was.

I'm not buying back what's left. After 9 months of battling with those shiny happy people, I'm kinda done. They coughed up, with great complaints, barely enough to kinda replace it if you really shop hard. I haven't replaced it. I thought about getting an Esprit S4s, or a SE. My wife thinks I should get a Hummer H1. She doesn't think I'd get hurt in that. I think I'll just fix up my old crap. That is, finish the 2 Europas and the Locost. Any other Lotus would take away the time needed for those projects.

I could see that if you needed the money for a vehicle to get to work, you would be at their mercy. That would be bad. Their philosophy is that they think they can get away with giving you the amount that you would get if you sold it in "medium" or less condition with no accessories or extras, private party on Craigslist.
