Replaced an oldman emu that I bought when I first got my disco with a bilstein
There's still a bit of paint on the old one and the fact it is rusty indicates the oil still MIGHT be inside, you've replaced it too soon!
I legitimately wouldn't be surprised if the old one was still working well, I'd be tempted to cut off the outer cover, replace it with a universal shock bellows and keep it as a spare...
I had to measure them to see if they're really the same length even assuming the bilstein is fully extended, they look close enough.
Damper - a part that provides resistance proportional to velocity
Dampener - a part that makes other parts wet, occasionally with shock oil
