you could still buy a new Lexus in 2011 with a cassette deck.
Some people just can't accept, or plan for, change.

Infotainment units are the #1 cause of customer and service department unhappiness. I was told I had to wait a week when my F-150 Car Play had an issue because the guy who knew these things was on his honeymoon. The nerve of him, leaving when I was taking delivery.
Turned out the issue was the phone. When I tried to show my salesperson, clearly I bored him.
I'm still unsure if my 2017 BMW has the 3g or 4g component - it was mid-model year they did the change. For now, it works. But even if it's not 3g, how long until the 4g sunset?
All of 3g is not dead yet,
AT& T shut down Feb 22
T-Mobile in early summer
and Verizon the end of the year....
problem is most of the automotive related stuff used AT&T
Verizon also killed off CDMA which is what Verizon and Sprint used all these years.
so now it's 4g LTE , and some 5G which is also not a standard
I don't even listen to the radio in my vehicles. No pods, no screens, nothing. Somehow I don't think this will affect me. Ever...
Except that BMW 850 I saw in traffic today. That was a damn nice looking car.
By the time the rich people get bored with them it might be an issue.

I don't think this will fly as DMV will slap you with a gas guzzler tax.

All of my currently running vehicles have OBD II. None came with any infotainment distraction package, or need a connection of any kind. Absolutely no need to go back as far as you are suggesting... at least not as relates to a cell type!!!
Now, to run after the zombie apocalypse? You may have a point!
