That rear axle looks a lot like what came on an Austin-Healey 100-6, shortened and plenty of welding done. Of course, a Healey axle was sourced from the BMC parts bin, so could have been very common on other cars available in Canada. I'm thinking the rear axle is beefier than would have come on a car with that small an engine.
