Identify this car

A friend went to Germany last week and sent me this pic:

He saw this at the 'Ring and thought it looked awesome (and I agree) but I can't figure out what it is.

There is an Opel Manta sitting on a vacant lot about 10 miles from me. I was afraid to get out and look at it, it looked amazingly rust free from the road.

I knew what is was, but the voice in my head was quicker with "German Monza". Are they related at all? Because there sure is a resemblance.

Not really much relation with the Opel Monza apart from the fact that they're both Opels. The Monza is considerably bigger. Mind you, the Monza straight six does fit into the Manta's engine bay with a bit of work .

This is a late '70s Chevy Monza. A chassis mate to the Manta.

If you don't know what a Manta is, then you probably could watch some good rallying videos that could catch you up a bit.

Me in mine 21 years ago. the car I regret selling more than any other. It would be way over 25 years old now and I could have brought it over here.
