What's the "newest" or "youngest" vehicle you've bought?

Strange question, I know, but I got to thinking about my own car history the other day, and realized my first vehicle was the newest vehicle I ever owned.

It was a 1998 gmc Sonoma, I bought in 2004. After that they all got older, sure there were a couple 99s, but they were well over 6 years old when I bought them.

Bonus random trivia: the first vehicle I owned made in this century was the 2005 P71 I bought in 2016.

The second car I ever owned was a nine year old Subaru that I got for $700.  I had it for about a year and a half before the rust was so bad that the car was unsafe (like "remove the seatbelts by pulling gently" unsafe), but I mainly stopped driving it because I blew the engine in a spectacular overheating event.  After it cooled off, I added water to the radiator, and cranking the engine would shoot water six feet through the grille from compression pushing it out of  the holed radiator.

That was also the "newest" car i ever had.  Tied for second place are both of my Volvos, which were 12 years old when I got them.

On reflection, that means that my "new" car is still older than that Subaru was when it got hauled away.    Both of them had AWD, but I find myself accidentally exceeding the Subaru's top speed on a regular basis.  How times have changed.

I've bought two cars brand new, both Mazda, combined total of 19 miles between them.

Never bought a new car. The newest cars I ever owned were 5 years old when I got them. 2002 Saturn bought in 07 and a 2005 Focus bought in 2010.

I was thinking about similar things the other day. My first vehicle was a 1977 short box K10. I was 15 so that made the year 2003. The truck was 26 years old. I currently own a 1990 S10 and think of it as a much newer truck, but in reality it is 28 years old. So, older than the 77. I don't know why but it sure is strange to think about.

If I didn't have a kid on the way I would go out right now and buy the new 2017 Civic Si coupe (in black, my pants feel kinda funny) that the dealer GM will sell me on the cheap (he is my GM too, and a genuinely good guy). The math says that it makes financial sense to buy new if I plan to keep the car at least 10 years... But again, I do NOT need that big of a financial commitment right now and I really need to stop even entertaining the idea.

I may be in the minority but I think Honda really did a fantastic job with this latest gen civic. Gotta stop even looking.

Three years ago I bought a 2007 Accord for the Wife.  Had 13k on it.  But new?  Not yet.

I'm on my second new family hauler, but none of 'my' cars come to me with less than 10 years or 100k miles of use

If you do shop new and can either pay cash or bring your own financing, Trucar saved me a legit $7200 on a new Sienna.  I drove about 3hrs to get it.  I don't usually advertise, but it was a delightful experience.

2006 is the newest year vehicle I've owned. Had a '95 Impreza in '00, they only got older from there (in relation to the what year it was when I bought it).

1998 Cavalier in '03

1993 Lumina z34 in '04

2003 Ram 1500 in '06

2005 Cobalt SS/sc in '09

2000 328i in '15

2006 Ms6 in '17

1987 300zx in '05

1988 rx7 in '07

1995 vr6 in '08

94 & 95 s10's in '11 (v8 swaps)

As neat as I think all the new cars I get to drive are, I doubt I'll ever buy anything new for myself. SWMBO will get something new when its time for baby's but for me? meh

Prior to my latest purchase, a 2003 BMW, the newest car I've ever bought was a 1987.  The newest in age was a 1985 Rx7 in 2001.

I always intended to buy newer and newer Daily.

My "newest" daily driver was a 1995 B13 Sentra I bought in 2001.

It went downhill from there:

Then I bought a 1994 D21 hardbody in 2007.

Then a 1977 C10 in 2013 or 2014 (I can't remember)

Then a 1961 this year which will be my next daily.

oddly enough my first car was my 'newest' car. I had a 1985 Fiero in 1991.  Car had zero options and 125,000 miles when I bought it for $500. Thats all the dealer would offer the owner on trade so he sold it to me.  I normally buy stuff thats 10-15 years old for daily drivers.

I bought one new car, a 1980 Mazda 626.  Every other car before or since was at least 11 years old or more when I purchased them.

Most all of my cars have been hand me downs.  My first car was a 10 year old SAAB 900 with 100,000 on it.  Next for college I got a new Olds Intrigue with 2 mile on it.  Next was a hand my down 8 year old BMW, followed by two more hand me down BMW's.  My current Daily is a 16 year old used to me BMW.  My next two cars will be used, and at least 10 years old, less tech is so much easier to deal with, plus new Wagons are WAY overpriced right now.

I've never bought a "new" car, but I did get my wife's '14 Impala in '14. It had 19,000 miles on it, though.

My wife's 04 ion we purchased in 06 with 31k miles. Personally the newest vehicle in relation to purchase time was a 91 rodeo in 2005. Second was 99 Silverado in 2016.

Not counting my wife's vehicles or my motorcycles the newest car I've bought myself was my 05 Grand Prix GTP Comp. Although I much prefer cars designed in the 70s.

My wife's 2013 fusion bought in 2013 with like 43 miles on it. It was about a year old at the time.

Local Mazda dealer has 2016 cx5's for 7k off msrp right now. No such deal for their ND's though.

I bought my 2004 Honda VFR in 2007 brand new.  .1 miles on the odo, Honda damaged a bunch of crates and sat on a bunch of VFR's for a while, and it got me a good deal on a new/3 year old bike.  Newest car is my SX4, a 2011 I bought in early 2014.

When I do the math on what I'd actually want to own, I can't make new make sense.  I'm *really* curious what the 2019 Mazda3 turns out like and may treat myself to a one-year old copy in 2020.  Then there's the Kawasaki Z900RS that I've been eyeing...

Aside from my 2014 Honda CBR which I did splurge on, my newest car is a 1997 Eagle Talon (currently on the disabled list). Only car I own with fuel injection and it's fun when it's running. Picked it up for $400.

In 2016 I bought a 2009 Subaru Impreza with 78k. Rebuilt title, dead clutch, parked under a tree for 18 months.

Got it fixed and presentable and sold it at 80k in favor of my 300k 2002 WRX.

Hmm...  Interesting. Ignoring the one new car I've bought:

'71 Comet in 1987 - 16 yo

'82 Subaru in 1988 - 6 yo

'74 W100 in 1989 - 15 yo

'71 F100 in 1989 - 18 yo

'78 F150 in 1989 - 11 yo

'86 Toyota PU in 1990 - 4 yo

'91 Integra in 1996 - 5 yo

'91 E150 in 1998 - 7 yo

'98 A4 in 2002 - 4 yo

'73 1800ES in 2005 - 32 yo

'73 1800ES in 2006 - 33 yo

'95 Cummins 2500 in 2007 - 22 yo

'78 Spitfire in 2009 - 31 yo

'88 E30 in 2010 - 22 yo

'72 GT6 in 2011 - 39 yo

'64 Mini in 2013 - 49 yo

'08 Grand Caravan in 2013 - 5 yo

'79 Spitfire in 2014 - 35 yo

'06 MCS in 2017 - 11 yo

'92 E350 in 2017 - 25 yo

So the answer is 4 years old. Twice. And the oldest was the Mini at 49 (the only car I've owned that was older than me).

(cars in bold are still in the fleet)
