Lightweight, transversely mounted inline six with great block rigidity and tiny dimensions but no aftermarket and a power peak at only 5300 rpm. Some of them came with 5 speed sticks.
volvo has a transverse inline 6 too, but twin turbo not sure about manual trans though
They sold them in the US as the Suzuki Verona. They weren't actually a bad looking car. I remember them advertising the inline 6 as well.

The S80 T6 will bolt to a manual from any other White Block Volvo but it never had one factory, at least over here.

The s80 did come with a manual box overseas. They had to find/build one specifically for that car because it needed to be very shallow to fit the engine bay with the inline six.
My mom's s80 uses a GM auto (which im happy about), and im sure a big part of the reason why is because most of the transmission is actually behind the motor instead of beside it (from the front of the car) which eases fitment of a transverse inline 6. As far as holding power, the 4t60 has benefitted from all the supercharged 3.8 cars out there putting out big torque and finding the weaknesses to target upgrades at. But once you hit the power limit of the big chain and sprockets you are talking big money. Pretty sure that's a high bar to hit, though.
I remember trying to see if the Verona engine was related to any of the Toyota inline sixes.
All i got for the efforts was "My Sharona" stuck in my head for a week.
PS. You're welcome.
