I'm thinking the car ought to just about cover the years storage fees. Standard rule at my house is, "90 days same as mine."

I would definitely be interested in that car. I have been rotary less for way to many years. If you decide to pass that along let me know. As for a number. Humm. It really is a tough one. $500 is probably where I would start and be reluctant to move much on that.
I know I have a 94 mustang that I would trade you for it. It is in the grm for sale forum and on CL at the moment for $1250.
Actually the owner of the car also asked me to do some electrical work for him. I said I would have a look at it and maybe we could work out a barter deal for partial payment on the car.
By the way knurled I agree, the SA is the perfect RX-7. Amazingly everyone thought I was nuts when I was trying to sell my 78 production 2 owner SA a few years ago.

The ECU plugs are completely different S4/S5, there's no way to make them work with the wrong ECU. I don't think Megasquirt will run the electronic OMP, the last I heard it would not and there was no simple way to add that capability. You can either run the earlier mechanical OMP, just have to swap front covers, or run premix. The pickup wiring for the crank sensor is 'flipped' but otherwise even 98% of the color codes are the same. The S4/S5 N/A harnesses are also useable, the difference is they don't have the wiring for the knock sensor but that's easily added. The turbo harness has provisions for the boost control solenoid on both S4 and S5. Again the N/A harness doesn't have this but it's easily added. The S5 N/A harness also provides for the 'short runner' valve's pressure solenoid. S4 doesn't, again easily added.
Sorry for this threadjack......
Wait, Wait....WAIT. Are you telling me an S4 and S5 CAS is different? Like different enough that the car would be hard to start and set timing etc.....??
Can anybody answer this question? I realize this is in reply to one of our members that is now guiding us Rotards from the heavens...
End Threadjack!
I'm going to call him later and make an offer. I hope I don't insult him. He is the original owner and all. He is a friend as well. Not sure what my course of action will be if I do get it, but stay tuned/make more suggestions.
If he goes for the $500, could this be made into a challenge car? Of course that is if I can somehow fix the rot.
After the last few years I think you'd be hard up to find a light vehicle that could not be converted into a challenge car.

By that math, I might be able to acquire a ratty Grand National in a little while.
And I have the space to keep one... crap. But it would make one HELL of a tow rig! Wouldn't that just make the purists wince.
(Scene: Rallycross Nationals returns to Tulsa. Knurled tows to the site in full luxo airconditioned style, rallycrosses an RX-7 by day, 1/4 mile track opens at night, Knurled runs high 10s with the "tow rig", gets kicked out for not having a cage...)
I may have a line on a 91 convertible chassis. A guy I know that has his own rotary business has what he says is a mint white vert that is missing the driveline and the rear axle is out but he has it. $500 is his asking price. I hope to see it soon. Maybe I could combine the black TII with the white (my favorite color on the RX-7) and make the convertible Mazda should have made. Just need to procure the TII first.
I would still save the TII. Those are not easy to find these days. A turbo vert is cool but to the purist it screens home made. On the other hand if you take the motor out of the TII would you be interested in selling the roller T2? That would make fixing the frame simple and leaves a very good starting point for a motor swap. I know everyone would immediately say V8. But I have always wanted to put a aluminum V6 with miled boost or some sort of I4 with serious boost in one of those.
What would be really cool would be an ecoboost motor.
Went to see the 91 vert today. Wasn't as clean as I was told, but not horrible aside from rotted floors near the rocker panels, and some dents that I wasn't told about. Not sure what to do. The rot is very scary to me.
Make low offer. Cut up to fix t2 part out the rest.
I would be saving a t2 long before I saved a very. I just never liked them.
Would it be worth trying to cut the bad rotted section of the TII frame off, and replace wit this frame rail? Is that even possible? Could a total newb like myself take this on with any hope of doing it correctly?
Measure twice cut once. It really should not be that bad. I would do it if it was mine.
Cut out the area that is bad then make a template out of tape of the cut out area. Transfer tape to the other frame and then cut that out. A little fine tuning is inevitable but basicly that is it.
Can you weld? If not I can and have a welder that is portable. The welding is the easy part really. The cutting and what not is also not really a big deal it would just take a little time. Fiddly work really. If you decide to fix it and bed a hand let me know.
Now that I have said this I would want to see it but as long as the area is accessible with the tools to cut things it should be pretty easy.
So almost 2 years later the car is still in my yard. I think I'm going to call or text the owner and tell him to come get it or bring the title over.
Owner of the tii texted me this week and again today asking to come over to get his plate and stuff from the car. Said he'd sell it to me and we would be all square. Shows up in the rain at 7:30 tonight. No title!!!! Can't find it, but says it isn't necessary. He left with the plate and his belongings, but none of my money. Needs the title before he gets that. Wtf?!?!
Chris
Hummm How well do you know this person?
You do realize that I want you to get this and then resell it to me. I have always lusted after one for a long time and I have the expertise to actually fix it.
