Yes it is. In 2020 they sold 100 with a stick. 100.
No doubt this exact model is rare, too, so adding more rarities is only going to make it super rare. My point was that if you expand your radius to other makes and years, it balloons very quickly to - gasp - thousands of options! Still not common by most standards, so I say that cheekily. But not irreplaceable either. I have a RWD stick E91 that they only made ~400 of over all years, and those come up for sale frequently. Not saying it is comparable car, but it is of comparable rarity. The internet makes it easy these days.
It's rare because there isn't a large market for it.
Like ProDarwin said, I wouldn't want to pay for the car/insurance and use space for something like that.
You mentioned a track day, but certainly you could get rid of that and find something DRAMATICALLY more compelling as weekend and occasional HPDE car, right?
My opinion? Sell it.
1) You have no use for it. Waste of money (insurance/registration costs) and space.
2) Now is the time to sell cars and lose almost nothing (or even gain) on them.
3) You can always just get another G70 in the future anyway and probably when things get normal again.
In reply to z31maniac :
I actually already have an RX-8 that serves that purpose.
It is rare and it would be pretty difficult to find another one just like it in the future. I don't want to keep it because of it's rarity. I want to keep it because I really like it. I am torn though because it would be stupid to keep making payments/insurance/storing it if it never gets used.
The reason I bought this car was because of a clickbait article on Facebook titled 'These are the cars that you can still get with a manual transmission'. When I saw the G70 on the list I was shocked that you could get it with a manual.
Thank you all for all the input so far. It has definitely been useful to hear others opinions. I'll likely give it a month or two once I start the new job and decide what to do. I'll list it here before anywhere else in case someone here is interested in it.
In reply to ProDarwin :
Yes, all the M/T cars came with the LSD
That's a great color and spec! I think your path of keeping it around for a few months after the new job makes sense. That'll tell you how in love you are with your new job, and will also give you an idea of how much you would/wouldn't drive the car.

Oh in that case it's a hard sell for me.
But then again, this type of car does absolutely zero for me.
If you sell it now are you going to regret it in five years? I think we have all had a car (or 5!) that we have sold and wished we hadn't at a later date.

Yeah, but its also silly to park that kind of $.
$30k invested in the market 5 years ago would be worth $60,352. How much will you miss the car?
I'm always thinking - what is todays Datsun 510? Deducting the BMW's cause those are todays 2002 subject to argument.
Take the 510 and add 50 years of improvement. I'm almost 60 years old so I'm in for the sweet improvements.
2.0 liter 4 cylinder (well guys did put in the 2.0 truck motor)
Manual transmission
Rear wheel drive
Independent rear axle design
Sedan - not an SUV or crossover (no 2 doors but that's all todays safety rated designs)
Manufacturer from Asia that nobody expected the explosion of AWESOME cars
What you guys think?

That's one hell of a point.

Would they pay you more if you decline the company car? I've known some companies that will pay a stipend if you don't take the company car.

Thanks. The FR-S hits many points but it's tight for old Hoss to get into. The out of my price range Supra is the same.
If you end up wanting to sell hit me up.

IMHO you have two options. There has never been a better time to sell a used car, so if the new company car will be at least as good as the G70 then it makes sense to sell it (unless of course you think you will be moving on from that job to another one soon). The other option would be to see if you could convince the new employer to pay you a bonus or additional pay in lieu of the company car. That option is certainly less likely but it doesn't hurt to ask, especially if you explain that you like your current car so much that you don't want to sell it. Either way, good luck at the new job.
Just wrote a review on these cars. One of the best I have ever driven.
In reply to Tom1200 :
I don't think so. I'll find out more about the vehicle situation once I start in January.
In reply to Tim Suddard :
Yeah. That's is what is making this decision so hard for me. I know what the smart/right thing to do is but it is hard since this car is exactly what I want.
In reply to JBinMD :
Thank you! Whatever happens with the car, I'm super pumped about the new job and am confident it's what I'm looking for right now.
In reply to karplus2 :
The smart/right thing is to keep a car you really love & be happy you won't be piling the miles on it anymore.
In reply to Pete Gossett (Forum Supporter) :
My Buddy ordered a new 2-door Neon ACR and kept it mint driving in good weather only. He's got over 100k miles but it's in great condition.
The down side was payments for 4 years while driving a beater truck to work everyday.
In reply to Pete Gossett (Forum Supporter) :
That's a really good point. I was committed to finding a job with less of a commute. I had no plans of piling the miles on this car. The new job fell into my lap and it will really improve my enjoyment at work so I'm OK with the commute.
Just to update this, the work truck got picked up last night.
I plan to keep the G70 for the next 6 or 7 months and see how I feel about holding onto it at that point.
In reply to karplus2 :
Good plan. Shame it's not a long bed, you could just haul the Fiesta around in the truck.
This thread was a good one. Update?
Still got the car? Company truck? Having both work out?
