Anybody watching on the History Channel? Those people have more money than sense.

I tried to watch it but it just wasn't interesting. Kind of sad honestly people paying 100k for a car b/c it ha 1 or 3 miles and then like They were saying just pushing it on and off of a trailer the rest of its life so they can say it only has 3 miles.

When I rented U-hauls 4 times a year to go to swap meets, I would disconnect the speedometer and use a plug I made to keep the fluid in. Always rented them local and returned them with less that 4 miles.

Just sayin'.

When someone pays $10,500 for a '77 Vega, you know you've found where all the automotive idiots are this weekend.

Look at what people paid for the parts. $160 for a set of folding sunglasses? $110 for a Lambrect Rubber ball? $160 for a ruler?

$30K for this?

Incredible! I went online for results, and watched the TV in shock and disbelief. It was like watching live news coverage of a disaster, where it seems surreal but you know it is really happening!

I marveled at the segment showing some of those cars being reclaimed from the woods, using chain saws and heavy equipment.

1963 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Coupe (stored inside, 17miles) $42,000

1963 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Coupe (stored inside, low miles?) $40,000

1963 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Coupe (stored inside?, 44,000 miles, daughters car) $13,000

Someone did not research the value of restored Corvairs!?! Or super low mileage ones. (there are a number of super low mileage 69's around).

I really don't see them getting the money out of these. Maybe the third one. Probably can't restore or drive the first two though, that would probably kill what value they have..

No. When they started on the C10's the first one went for $10K, but when they got to the one he wanted it went for (IIRC) $30K.

It was interesting that both Rutledge and Tanner thought the selling prices were insane.

Perfect example of how an auction crowd can drive prices. It's like gambling. There's a reason Barrett-Jackson and Mecum and all those get nuts when the cars get big numbers.

I like that History covered it, probably won't ever happen again.

I think people just got crazy and they were people who have never attended an auction and they didn't know where to stop.

Every single one of those cars needs to be restored. I don't get the ridiculous prices.

My auction experiences have proved to me that when you put a large number of people together in a situation like that, it becomes a contest to prove how much you're willing to overpay on an item.

We had an auction at our former high-school this summer, and while I don't usually attend auctions, I went and expected to get some good deals. There were a few items I was interested in, but the bidding was just insane. For example, there was a guy buying up every single film-strip, regardless of price. I checked eBay, and they weren't exactly flying off the shelves...and all the sex-education ones were MIA anyway. A beat-to-E36 M3 and dented tuba sold for $700. The only things that didn't sell were the textbooks and teachers' desks.

I did get a couple good deals though: I bought the scoreboard for $125, and ended up making $75 off it. And I bought Mr. Gross Mouth for $50, and made $25 off of him.

We were also watching the Corvairs, figuring we might be able to snatch one of the 4 doors.

The cheapest MSO unowned 'vair went for $3800- and that was for a parts-missing blue 4 door 1960 that looked like rats had been living in it. IN-SANE. I bought my nice, California rust free running- driving '64 Convertible for that much.

I was actually high bidder on that blue 4 door for a little while in the online pre-bid. My top bid was $950. And I thought that was high.

Top money seems to have been for a '59 Cameo pickup. $140,000. My house was only slightly more expensive.

I take comfort in knowing that at least, for this money, these cars won't get parted out or scrapped.

I got tired of hearing them say they were new cars. They're not. I don't care if the car has on mile, it isn't new. It's been sitting in a field or barn for 4 decades, with no care, so it's not in any shape to call it new.

And I thought they said they had the paperwork on all these cars?

The Corvair Monza coupe that they showed on TV that was Lambrecht's daughters was a '62 not a '63.

Sorry I'm watching this on the DVR.

The '78 Corvette Pace Car was just stupid:

Do you know how many of those I've seen with less than ten miles on them? All of them are "as delivered!" with the plastic still on the seats. GM made 6,000 of them and everyone and their grandmother tucked one away as an "investment" vehicle. The same thing happened to 2002 Camaros and Firebird.

My dad has a 78 Pace car. It is a 350 auto, ~30k on the clock. I think he bought it as an investment, just like slefain said. Cool part is he bought it in WV and we drove it home to CT. I was pretty young then, and had a mild obsession with Smokey and the Bandit. My dad's 78 Lincoln Mark V was the Snowman and the Vette was the Bandit on the CB. Man was that fun.

I watched a video of them loading up all those cars. Kinda sad to see that much neglected metal.

The power of positive marketing. A lot of hype is what drove the prices up, not perception of value. I'm sure we'll see the low mileage cars show up at later auctions-- all cleaned up and shiny and presented as a "Lambrecht" car.

I FF most of the coverage on my DVR. Who was that Bryan Unger dude? He made Wood and Foust look like seasoned professionals! And he knew nothing absolutely nothing about cars...

I have to admit, Rutledge was far less of an assclown on the auction show than he typically is on TG. He was actually likeable, because he knew far more about the cars than I expected.

That's why he's good when he's broadcasting NASCAR and seems totally out of place on TG. He's a natural at "on the spot" live broadcasting, but with a script he totally is like a 3rd grader playing the Apple at the school play.

Same thing with Tanner. He didn't seem too bad broadcasting live.
